Marvel Studios have developed a strong formula for their films. That’s allowed them to become a production machine, as they step up to three releases per year. That means they need to film three Stan Lee cameos each year. According to Kevin Feige, their scheduling precision has already taken that in to account.
The man in change of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has let slip that Lee recently shot a few more cameos. After appearances in all 13 MCU films, he was always going to come back for more. Surprisingly, the 93-year-old managed to cram four scenes in to one day of filming. The comic book icon is getting pretty good at this film-making business. According to CinemaBlend, Feige said that they plan out his cameos for each film well in advance, allowing Lee to get them out of the way quickly:
We do not shoot random ones. They’re always very specific,… A couple of months ago in Atlanta, he flew down and we shot four in one day — for four various projects. They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different. And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.
The question now is, what were they for? There are three obvious answers. Marvel have three 2017 releases in some stage of production. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wrapped not too long ago. Also, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok are still shooting. It’s likely that Lee has appearances in all of those ready to go.
The fact that it happened a few months ago makes us think Doctor Strange was the other. Avengers: Infinity War has been mentioned, but that has only recently got close to filming.
However, Marvel have a busy few months coming. As we mentioned, Avengers 3 & 4 are filming back to back soon. Meanwhile, Black Panther and Ant-Man and The Wasp shoot early in 2017. Lee could well have another four to shoot in the not too distant future.
