Everyone has been scrambling for weeks with the unofficial news of Finn Jones casting as Danny Rand. Those days are over, Marvel released a teaser this morning via a “Who is Danny Rand?” question. They’re finally ready to give an answer.
“Marvel and Netflix are pleased to announce that Finn Jones (“Game of Thrones”) will star in “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” the newest series coming soon only to Netflix,” says a statement on Marvel’s official site.
“Jones will play Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
Along with the news came the following image:
The image name drops Joy Meachum, a character who, in the comics, acts as an enemy/lover to Iron Fist amidst their on again off again relationship. No word yet on what, if any, role she will play in the upcoming Netflix series.
About Jones’ casting as the character, showrunner and executive producer, Scott Buck, had this to say:
“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”
Iron Fist will appear exclusively on Netflix as a part of its ongoing build-up to the Defenders series. The show will expand upon the Marvel’s Cinematic TV Universe, which currently includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the upcoming Luke Cage, and eventually Defenders. Iron Fist’s premiere date has yet to be revealed.
Allegedly, Iron Fist will debut in episode thirteen of Luke Cage’s season one.
