As Netflix continues to provide views with its own Marvel Cinematic Universe, many of us are awaiting the return of Jessica Jones, a show which proved to be one of the highlights of 2015. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has highlighted some of the significant moments presented to Jessica in Season 1, and how they are expected to have repercussions in her journey forward.
Speaking with Nerdist, she spoke about Jessica’s post-traumatic stress¬†and dealing with murdering Kilgrave.
“One never stops having that experience, it becomes a part of who they are, but she‚Äôs a survivor and that‚Äôs what I‚Äôve always loved about her. The interesting thing is yes, she‚Äôs a victim of rape and assault but the thing that was the ultimate rape of her was to turn her into a murderer. So at the end she has to do it again and this time it‚Äôs her choice. She kills someone. Yes, someone who we all probably think deserves it, but ultimately she is taking a life with her own hands and that is not something she walks away from going ‚ÄúYeah!‚ÄĚ Taking a life to Jessica Jones is a very, very serious, life-changing experience.”
In such a character-driven show, it is appropriate that Jessica will, in fact, have some major demons to face as we see her story continue into Season¬†2 and¬†The Defenders —¬†an Avengers-type show including her, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
At the time of writing, Luke Cage has finished filming to premier later this year, with Iron Fist currently filming for a release next year. It has previously been reported Jessica Jones will shoot at the same time as The Defenders, so we may not be seeing Jessica return to our screens until well into next year.
