The year was 1976. It would be another year until Star Wars would capture imagination. The proto-geek era. Sure there were comics, superheroes and science fiction but quality just wasn’t there yet. YouTube stars Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart are taking a superhero duo from them and rebooting them for a new movie, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl.

Created by the same team that gave the world The Land of The Lost and H.R. Puffenstuff, Sid & Marty Krofft, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl is not a well remembered team in any sense of the word. The show is not remembered for good writing, acting or special effects. They are not remembered in general. They weren’t popular.

There were prepubescent boys who watched the titular heroines in those outfits that probably remember. There were young girls who saw them as empowered role models that might remember. We are talking forty years ago though. Remaking poorly done childrens entertainment with a snarky, modern take is so mid-90’s. Why remake this now?

One answer could be that humanity has run out of original ideas and is redoing whatever can be licensed. Electra Woman and Dyna Girl will be in theaters June 7th.
