A lot was banking on how well Tom Holland would do as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. As the third actor in a decade to play the role on the big screen, if he was anything less than, well, amazing, audiences might have been turned away by yet another incarnation of the webhead. Fortunately, Holland nailed the character perfectly, being a younger, quite probably more authentic, version of Peter Parker than previous portrayals. However, forget about what the public thought of him. What really counts is the opinion of the man who created Spider-Man. What does the one and only Stan Lee think about this new kid playing his most lauded creation?
Speaking at a panel at Denver Comic Con, Stan The Man was asked if he liked the 19 year-old British actor’s take on the webhead. See his response in the video below (the question comes up at the 3.55 mark).
“Oh, he’s wonderful, I was with him the other day,” answered Stan. “He is great! I can’t believe it. It’s as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man and it turned out to be Tom. Really!”
Well, it’s safe to say he’s a fan. And can we read anything into how Stan says he was with Holland the other day? At the same event, he also revealed that he recently filmed three new cameos for Marvel movies. Was he perhaps filming a cameo for a certain new Spider-Man film that is coming out soon?
Yes, thankfully for Stan (and the rest of us Spider-fans), Tom Holland will shortly be back in the Spidey underoos in Spider-Man: Homecoming, due for release on July 7th 2017 in the US. Joining Holland will be Robert Downey Jr, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Logan Marshall-Green, Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi and many others.
