Daisy Ridley can never say too much about the future of Star Wars, but there was one thing she could say for certain. Felicity Jones’ lead character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is definitely not Rey’s mother.
There had been a popular theory among fans that Jyn Erso, the character Jones plays in the first stand-alone Star Wars film, was the mother of Ridley’s character from The Force Awakens. However, in an interview with MTV News at the MTV Movie Awards this weekend, Ridley said that’s not the case.
“I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom,” she said.
Ridley knows who Rey’s parents are, but doesn’t think her family is as important as everyone else does. “I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place,” she told MTV. “So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is.”
Ridley is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, which Rian Johnson is writing and directing. The actress says that the film will be “darker” than The Force Awakens. “I don’t know if I am a Jedi… I don’t think I am,” she teased about Rey’s role in the new movie.
Episode VIII won’t hit theaters until Dec. 15, 2017.
