20th Century Fox has released a new featurette exploring the past of perhaps the greatest and most powerful villain in the X-Men universe: Apocalypse.
As explained in the video below, En Sabah Nur is rumoured to be the first ever mutant, gaining the powers of every person he embodied over millennia. Today, he has the power to control all mutants, as he seeks to destroy and rebuild humanity. You can see more here:
En Sabah Nur’s mutant control includes the ability to dodge Professor X, manipulate Magneto, catch up with Quicksilver, and even transform like Mystique. It is a genuine wonder how the team of X-Men will be able to compete with such a powerful villain who, in essence, would be able to destroy them all in a matter of seconds.
X-Men: Apocalypse is sure to raise the stakes among our heroes in the franchise, as it signals the finale in a trilogy that began with X-Men: First Class in 2011, followed by Days of Future Past. It is widely thought that Bryan Singer returned to lead the franchise after the badly received X3: The Last Stand, which saw the deaths of many major characters. After the timeline shift in Days of Future Past, the events of The Last Stand have been moved to a different and (hopefully) forgotten reality. That being said, what will follow after X-Men: Apocalypse isn’t official yet except that writer/producer Simon Kinberg has stated this film will pave the way for some major changes in the X-Men universe. One of the latest rumors teases we may get to see the Dark Phoenix saga, focusing on Jean Grey’s infamous transformation, retold.
X-Men: Apocalypse is directed by Bryan Singer and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, and Hugh Jackman. Look for it in UK cinemas on May 18 before it makes its way to US theatres on May 27.
