SPOILER ALERT: If you still haven’t seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, be warned.
During the credits for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Michael Cassidy, an actor who appeared in Smallville and The O.C., is credited as playing Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen. But we never hear Jimmy called by name, so you might just think that he’s in the background in the Daily Planet offices.
However, that’s not the case. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder revealed that Olsen is the photographer who went to Africa with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and turns out to be a CIA operative. Jimmy is shot and killed on the spot. Snyder explained to EW:
“We just did it as this little aside because we had been tracking where we thought the movies were gonna go, and we don’t have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but we can have fun with him, right?”
Snyder said that the 30-minute longer R-rated “Ultimate Cut” will include a longer scene with Jimmy and Lois. He added that he once thought Jesse Eisenberg could have the part of Jimmy, to throw the audience off. After meeting the actor though, Snyder thought Eisenberg would be better as Lex Luthor, which is how The Social Network star got the part.
