Shazam! – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com Entertainment News, Celebrities and Fandoms Sun, 29 Jan 2023 17:08:26 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://www.geekfeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-Geekfeed-Favicon-White-32x32.png Shazam! – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com 32 32 Newest Trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods has a Lot More Mythical Beasts https://www.geekfeed.com/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-has-mythical-beasts/ Sun, 29 Jan 2023 17:08:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73121 We watched Billy Batson go up against the Seven Deadly Sins in the first Shazam! movie, but this sequel, Fury of the Gods, just promises to pit Billy and his friends against even more mythical monsters.

Check this out:

The premise feels simple enough with the Daughters of Atlas (new characters created for the film) coming to take Shazam’s power with a menagerie of mythical creatures on their side. Though Billy was the epitome of a ‘kid with superpowers’ in the first movie, it looks like this sequel will have him doing a bit of growing up—especially when it comes to the safety of the rest of his family.

With Black Adam kind of being the ‘mindless superhero movie’ that the comic book genre gets flak for, I would think that Shazam! still has kind of a sincere ‘heart’ in the very core of the film. Of course fans are still expecting some huge, bombastic fights and some laughs, but I hope that director David F. Sandberg knows better than to just plan some VFX fight scenes and call it a day.

We don’t know if there’s room for Shazam in James Gunn’s new DCEU, but I do hope that Levi and the rest of the cast manage to close their superhero runs their way. Who knows, if the Flash really is about a multiverse movie, maybe there’ll be room for Shazam to stick around until the next team-up. Don’t tell me they’re not planning on having him clash with Black Adam at all?

Catch Shazam! Fury of the Gods when it flies into theaters on March 17.

The Rock Allegedly Declined to Appear in Shazam! Fury of the Gods https://www.geekfeed.com/the-rock-allegedly-declined-shazam-2/ Wed, 21 Dec 2022 05:35:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72544 Though the Rock has liked hyping up a battle between Superman and himself, Black Adam is still the main nemesis of Billy Batson a.k.a. Shazam. Adam and Shazam were expected to clash at one point in the franchise, but it seems that Dwayne Johnson himself isn’t that interested in fighting a boy in a Superman’s body.

As per The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, the Rock was a                                                                                                          sked to make a cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but declined. Here’s the post:

We don’t know why the Rock would decline a cameo in the film about his arch-nemesis, but I think it’s also completely possible that there could have been a scheduling conflict. For all this talk of Johnson fighting so hard to bring Henry Cavill’s Superman back, you’d think he’d have time to share for his long-time comic nemesis.

For now, there are conflicting reports on whether Black Adam made money in theaters or not, with some claiming that the Rock had shared false numbers to make it seem that his movie didn’t flop. One thing’s for sure, James Gunn and Peter Safran are working on revamping the whole DC, and we could be looking at a full clean slate with nobody left but John Cena’s Peacemaker.

For now, you can watch out for Shazam! Fury of the Gods when it release in theaters on March 17, 2023.

New Black Adam Trailer Showcases the Rest of the DCEU https://www.geekfeed.com/new-black-adam-trailer-showcases-dceu/ Thu, 22 Sep 2022 10:55:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71179 With the WB Discovery merger, fans are confused as ever as to what the actual continuity of the DCEU is, but a new trailer for Black Adam does make mention of the rest of the heroes in DC—specifically characters from the Snyderverse.

Watch the new Black Adam trailer down here:

With the Justice League already being established in the DCEU, it’s curious how the Justice Society came to be. I’m guessing they’re government-sanctioned as well since they seem to have connections to Amanda Waller, but I’m open for the idea that they’ve existed even before the League was formed.

Rumors have been going around that DC is actually planning on fully re-embracing the lore of the Snyder movies, but we have no official confirmation yet. Word has it that it will be established with the Flash movie making use of the Multiverse concept, but until we get something else official, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Personally, I am all for the continuation of the Snyderverse, but I do understand if DC just wants to completely reboot the entire thing. If you ask me, they should try their best to make themselves different from Marvel, rather than try and replicate their formula.

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man, to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.

Black Adam comes to cinemas Oct. 21.

Black Adam: Doctor Fate Gets His Own Poster https://www.geekfeed.com/black-adam-doctor-fate-gets-his-own-poster/ Tue, 30 Aug 2022 13:50:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70798 Black Adam may be the nemesis of Shazam, but he’s going to be taking on the Justice Society of America in his own solo movie. The film boasts a full JSA roster, and the Rock has shared a new poster of one Doctor Fate.

Check Doctor Fate out:

https://twitter.com/TheRock/status/1563633738042318849?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1563633738042318849%7Ctwgr%5Ea59f20f241749d99400474f7913d5398b2d229c8%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.screenspy.com%2Fthe-rock-shares-new-look-at-doctor-fate-in-black-adam%2F

We don’t know exactly how large Fate’s role in the film is going to be, but it seems like he’s going to be the character that will try and get Adam to fight for the good side. While I would have preferred they kept Adam in the morally grey area when it comes to characters, I think Dwayne Johnson is pretty set on only playing ‘good guys’ in movies.

Going back to Fate though, the character has been teased for being the Doctor Strange of the DC Universe, what with all of his mystical powers. I guess when it comes to the difference, the helmet of Doctor Fate is considered to be sentient on its own, and it takes control of whoever is its host; unlike Strange who kind of just has an ego about him.

I guess his powers come from an Egyptian source, so you could also say that he has some Moon Knight elements when it comes to his entire deal.

Admittedly, I’m more excited to see the JSA team-up rather than Black Adam himself, but I am hoping that DC manages to pull off this film—especially with the Rock being so passionate about the character.

Catch Black Adam when it hits theaters Oct. 21.

Upcoming Trailer for Black Adam Announced with Poster https://www.geekfeed.com/upcoming-trailer-for-black-adam-announced-with-poster/ Mon, 06 Jun 2022 14:27:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65516 The Flash and Aquaman 2 may have been pushed to next year, but the Rock’s Black Adam will make his big screen debut later this Halloween season. A new trailer is expected to drop this Wednesday, and we have a new promo poster coming with the announcement.

This was posted by Atom Smasher actor Noah Centineo:

From left to right we have Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosan), and Atom Smasher (Centineo). Fans are still holding out for an appearance from Shazam Zachary Levi, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the film.

With Adam known mostly for being a villain in the comics, I’m curious how the movie will approach the character, seeing that the Rock usually plays the ‘muscle-bound good guy’. Though I expect the Rock to change the character up a bit per his usual roles, I’m hoping that he embraces the part of an antihero this time around. I mean, not every character has to be as quippy and lighthearted as a Marvel hero.

Change things up, Johnson! (please).

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods-and imprisoned just as quickly-Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Black Adam hits theaters on Oct. 21.

For now, reshoots are ongoing for Black Adam, and we have a new image from the film courtesy of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

The post came with the caption:

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of playing some great (fun) characters over the years, but none speak to my DNA more than this antihero known as the man in black, Teth Adam.

We don’t know why Johnson would feel so connected to the character, but so far he has been very public about how Black Adam feels like a passion project for him. Hopefully this will be a different character from his usual persona in films where he’s a friendly muscle man with quips.

With Shazam!: Fury of the Gods coming out this year, I’m really curious how DC is going to be treating Shazam’s arch enemy. Though Billy Batson embodies the fun-and-games spirit of a chile, Adam is a hardened leader, who has grew up from poverty. It’s like watching two genres of superhero clash with each other—whenever that crossover happens.

With Black Adam set for an October release, we should be expecting a new trailer soon. Maybe we’ll get them once reshoots are out of the way. I suspect we’ll get something around June.

Catch Black Adam when it hits theaters on Oct. 21.

Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Reminisces Marvel’s Thor Films https://www.geekfeed.com/shazam-star-zachary-levi-reminisces-marvels-thor-films/ Tue, 07 Sep 2021 13:51:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61365 Zachary Levi may be the big star of a DC franchise now, but he has a not-so memorable role as Thor’s friend Fandral in the last two Thor films. Levi looks back at his time at the MCU and remembers how his character was kind of just pushed to the side.

Talking at Dragon Con 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia (via The Direct), Levi comments that he “didn’t really feel like The Warriors Three [(in the first movie)]were used all that well,” and that Marvel promised him that they would use the group more with The Dark World. Levi says:

“… I also didn’t have that much to do, ya know? And really, nothing to do in the third one… I knew I was going to die in the third one. I didn’t know I was going to die, having said nothing. Even the few words they gave me were going to be taken away.”

Despite not having much to do in the MCU, Levi considers his Fandral to have been reborn in the DCEU as the World’s Mightiest Mortal. He continues:

“But also, in hindsight, I got that journey, I died in the Marvel Universe… and then I got reborn in the DC Universe, and I can’t even tell you how unbelievably cool that is and how grateful I am for that. As an older dude, I’m not the young guy on the market who everybody wants to be like ‘oh that’s our cool superhero guy,’ and I’m like ‘I’m the guy that’s been a nerd for a long time, and is like 40,’ and they’re like ‘yea. Actually, you know what, you’re perfect ’cause you never grow up inside.’”

Though The Warriors Three were pretty underutilized, there are some fans who would have wanted to see more of them in the MCU. Perhaps in a What If…? story or maybe the second season of Loki. Let’s just cross our fingers that Levi has the time to make that cameo in the future.

For now, catch Levi in Shazam! Fury of the Gods which comes out on June 2, 2023.

Shazam is Battle-Damaged in New Fury of the Gods Photos https://www.geekfeed.com/shazam-is-battle-damaged-in-new-fury-of-the-gods-photos/ Thu, 08 Jul 2021 10:18:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60452 While the future of the DCEU is still a big question to audiences, some films have been trudging along when it comes to production. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to come out in 2023, but we have some new set photos of the World’s Mightiest Mortal getting into some scrapes.

Check out Zachary Levi in costume in this post:

https://twitter.com/ShazamNews/status/1412895220472107014

Since we don’t have a plot for the movie yet, it’s going to be hard to speculate on what scene this could be from. While it’s possible that it could just be from a fight early in the movie, the damage on the suit makes me think that we could be seeing glimpses of some kind of climactic battle.

While some have been waiting for Shazam to clash with Black Adam in the big screen, it looks like DC is opting for a slow burn, giving some background to Adam first before he battles Billy Batson. For Fury of the Gods, we’re going to be seeing Billy go up against the likes of Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu) first. Fingers crossed we get the return of Mister Mind after the teaser from the last film.

Though there is still a cry from fans to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, it looks like WB is going ahead with this more lighthearted film. If anything, The Flash film is expected to introduce a multiverse to the DCEU, so we could be looking at multiple versions of the same hero exisiting at the same time.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to come out on June 2, 2023.

First Official Look at New Costumes of the Shazam! Family https://www.geekfeed.com/first-official-look-at-new-costumes-of-the-shazam-family/ Wed, 23 Jun 2021 12:33:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60184 Set photos of Zachary Levi’s new Shazam! costume had leaked earlier in June, and in order to get ahead of the leaks, director David F. Sandberg has decided to post an official image of the new threads of the entire Shazam Family.

Check out the Shazam! sequel costumes down here:

Compared to the original suits from the first film, Fury of the Gods’ costumes have a lot more intricate details on their outfits. Fans have also noticed that the show doesn’t have the glowing chests anymore (which I personally thought was a nice feature). It also looks like Pedro’s costume has shifted from green to black, but some photos without the filter have shown that there is still some shade of green. They probably couldn’t give him a full black suit, seeing as that would be Black Adam’s.

https://twitter.com/nightwaynes/status/1406964758281076739

It has also been confirmed by Sandberg that Grace Fulton will now be playing both Mary Marvel’s civilian and superhero identities—with the help of a little make-up magic. As for the other heroes, It looks like they still have to switch with their younger counterparts.

While not the most memorable DCEU entry, Shazam! still managed to set itself apart when it comes to its lighter tone compared to the rest of the DC franchise. We don’t know what direction Fury of the Gods will take, but hopefully Sandberg and the rest of the cast still manage to deliver a story with some heart.

Hopefully this time they actually get Henry Cavill to make a full face cameo. We need more Cavill Superman, WB!

Catch Shazam! Fury of the Gods when it comes out on June 2, 2023. The next entry in the DCEU is The Suicide Squad which comes out on Aug. 6.

The Suicide Squad: Bloodsport is in Jail for Almost Killing Superman https://www.geekfeed.com/the-suicide-squad-bloodsport-is-in-jail-for-almost-killing-superman/ Wed, 16 Jun 2021 14:57:15 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60073 Though fans thought that he was originally replacing Will Smith as Deadshot, Idris Elba will be playing an entirely new character, Bloodsport in James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad. We know that the team is full of unique characters, but Gunn has confirmed the reason why Bloodsport is dangerous—he almost killed Superman.

As Gunn said on Twitter (via GamesRadar), Bloodsport has been locked up for almost taking out the Man of Steel. He writes:

“Bloodsport is in prison for taking [Superman] down with a kryptonite bullet. If you believe these covers, he may not be the bad guy in that situation.”

When a fan asked him if Bloodsport actually killed Superman, Gunn replied:

Admittedly, the latter DCEU films have almost been trying to steer away from the SnyderVerse, but this crossing of lore—even just by mentioning names—is what makes this universe feel more connected. We don’t know if Henry Cavill will actually make some kind of cameo, but it’s likely that it could just be another Shazam! body double situation.

While a lot of people were hoping that Elba would be the Bronze Tiger from the comics, it looks like Gunn has an interesting spin on Bloodsport moving forward. Hopefully the film succeeds enough to garner a third movie with Deadshot and maybe even a return of Jared Leto’s Joker.

Then again, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s just hope that WB gets it together with their DCEU plans moving forward.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it comes out on Aug. 6.

First Official Look at Zachary Levi’s New Suit for Shazam! Fury of the Gods https://www.geekfeed.com/first-official-look-at-zachary-levis-new-suit-for-shazam-fury-of-the-gods/ Sat, 05 Jun 2021 10:06:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59822 With leaked photos of Zachary Levi in the new Shazam! suit making the rounds online, director David F. Sanberg has decided to release an official teaser of Levi in the suit.

Check out Captain Marvel’s outfit for Shazam! Fury of the Gods:

For context (and better lighting), here’s a look at the leaked photo that’s been going around online:

There are a lot of significant changes when it comes to the suit. For one, the gauntlets have a different, more stylized look, and the red suit itself has been given more variety when it comes to texture. The suit also hasa whole new shield on the chest, this time really leaning in on the lightning bolt shape.

The suit here has no cape for now, but it’s possible that the film plans to CG it in, so as to better control how it looks in a scene. With heroes getting “battle-damaged” looks in movies, it would be interesting to see Shazam losing the cape and going all out.

While the DCEU has been mostly dark and mature when it comes to its depiction of superheroes, Shazam! had managed to set itself apart by being more lighthearted and kid-friendly; after all, the protagonist is a literal child. With this sequel though, I’m hoping we get some more mature themes explored. Besides just being a superhero, this could be an interesting coming-of-age film when it comes to the character of Billy Batson.

Mark Strong’s Dr. Sivana Won’t be in Shazam! Fury of the Gods https://www.geekfeed.com/mark-strongs-dr-sivana-wont-be-in-shazam-fury-of-the-gods/ Fri, 21 May 2021 10:46:44 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59620 With the post-credits scene of Shazam!, a lot of fans were convinced that we haven’t seen the last of Mark Strong’s Dr. Sivana. Despite the teaser, it looks like Strong will be taking the backseat when it comes to his return.

Talking to Den of Geek, Strong has confirmed that he won’t be appearing in Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and he’s happy to let Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu take the spotlight. He says:

“I literally spoke to the producer last night, because I saw that Zach Levi tweeted that they’re about to start shooting in Atlanta. Dr. Sivana isn’t in Shazam! 2… What’s happened is, I think Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu and perhaps someone else – they’ve got some female villains in. And to be honest with you, I’m very happy to take a back seat to some female villains and let them have a go, because judging by the work that Emma Thompson and Emma Stone have done in Cruella, it’s about time.”

We don’t have much details in the new characters yet, but Mirren is said to be playing Hesperaand Liu is playing a character named Kalypso—both are said to be daughters of the titan Atlas. Though we don’t have Greek mythology has been Wonder Woman’s domain, it would be great to see some of that synergy when it comes to the Shazam! movies.

In the meantime, we can wait for Sivana and Mr. Mind to make their comeback in a third movie. Who knows, maybe they’ll be the ones to make Shazam clash with Black Adam?

Here’s the synopsis for the first Shazam movie:

We all have a superhero inside of us — it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson’s case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do — have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he’ll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam’s magical abilities.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to come out on June 2, 2023.
