According to The InSneider, Johansson is currently being offered the leading part of the next Jurassic World movie which will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Should Johansson be cast, she would be following the footsteps of another Marvel star, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) who was the male lead of the last three Jurassic films. I guess Bryce Dallas Howard was also in a Spider-Man film at one point, but that was way before the MCU was even a thing.

No official story has been revealed for the next Jurassic World movie, but it is expected to take place around the same continuity as the rest of the Jurassic films. So we should expect dinosaurs to have been roaming the earth again for a while. The story could possibly go several ways, but hopefully they have an interesting new entrypoint to tackle the narrative if they’re going to launch a new trilogy.

Personally, I thought that the Jurassic World films were fine. It was odd that Dominion focused mostly on these weird super-locusts, but I thought the idea of having the dinosaurs escape the park and once again make their place on the planet was a pretty inspired decision. I guess I was just hoping to see more of how the humans were going to be dealing with T-rexs just walking around.

The next Jurassic World movie is aiming for a release on July 2, 2025.

Next Jurassic World Film Taps Rogue One Director to Helm https://www.geekfeed.com/next-jurassic-world-film-taps-rogue-one-director/ Fri, 23 Feb 2024 10:46:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81153 Gareth Edwards had taken a huge break after the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and though the film isn’t perfect, there was still a lot to love about The Creator. Now it looks like Edwards is going to be taking on another huge IP with dinosaurs—and no, it isn’t Godzilla.

As per Deadline, Edwards has been tapped to direct the next Jurassic World film. Edwards was said to be the next choice after Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, and he was said to have wowed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall.

No synopsis has been released for the next Jurassic World film, but the movie is said to be taking place in a completely new era; and we’re not expecting Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard to make a return—neither should we expect anyone from the OG cast like Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum to come back either.

Though the Jurassic World movies had not been critical darlings, they all did major bank in the box office, and Universal is pretty much committed to delivering more of these dinosaur films. With Dominion, the humans were left to co-exist with the dinosaurs loose on the Earth, and the next movie should show us just what kind of world the people have been living in after years of the dinosaurs once again making the Earth their home.

Does everyone live in domes so they can be safe from T-Rexes and pterodactyls? Can humans even still travel by sea safely if there are massive mosasaurs roaming the oceans?

With Edwards onboard, I’m sure we’re going to be in for a visual feast. Fingers crossed we get more details soon. The next Jurassic World movie is set to release on July 2, 2025.

Next Jurassic World Movie Announces 2025 Release Date https://www.geekfeed.com/jurassic-world-movie-announces-2025-release-date/ Thu, 08 Feb 2024 16:07:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80936 It was only a few weeks ago when it was reported that another Jurassic World movie was in the works, and though we don’t have any details on the story, Universal has revealed a release date for the upcoming film.

Here’s the post from the official Jurassic World twitter:

So far, the post didn’t come with any teasers as to what to expect with this film, but it is said that the movie will be focusing on a whole new cast of characters this time around; so don’t hold your breath for Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard to make a return.

Despite the movies being critically panned when they came out, the Jurassic World movies still managed to make a lot of bank in the box office; so it won’t be any surprise that Universal would want to make more of these films.

With Dominion, the dinosaurs pretty much are established as part of the world once more, and humans will just have to embrace the possibility of forests that could have a roaming T-rex or a mosasaurus suddenly appearing on a beach somewhere.

I can’t speculate much about where the story could go, but I would imagine that the world would have to change to be able to accommodate for the sudden existence of all these giant animals that can tear through houses and vehicles like nothing.

Fingers crossed we get a teaser before the year ends.

The next Jurassic World movie comes out July 2, 2025.

New Jurassic World Movie in the Works Eyeing 2025 Release https://www.geekfeed.com/new-jurassic-world-movie-in-the-works/ Wed, 24 Jan 2024 16:36:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80722 Jurassic World Dominion came out in 2022, and though the film didn’t get the critical reception it was expecting, it still made over a billion in the box office, solidifying it as one of the most successful film franchises of all time.

Though it did seem that we wouldn’t be getting any more Jurassic movies, THR is reporting that a new Jurassic World film is in the works, and the movie has been in such deep development that Universal is said to be looking for a release sometime in 2025.

So far, no director has been announced to be taking the helm for the film, but David Koepp, who was the writer of the original Jurassic Park, is said to be coming back to tackle a whole new story which is said to be taking place in a ‘new era’ of the franchise.

Producer Frank Marshall, who had also overseen the Jurassic World trilogy, is also coming back to produce this film, and Steven Spielberg himself is also attached as an executive producer via Amblin Entertainment.

By the end of Dominion, we saw that the dinosaurs had been freed from the park and he humans just ended up co-existing with them (despite how dangerous some of the dinosaurs are). We should expect the continuity to further explore a world with dinosaurs, but I’m interested to see how Koepp would approach the story because ancient locusts are kind of a boring villain for a dinosaur film.

No release date has been set for the next Jurassic World, but the studio is said to be eyeing a 2025 release.

Watch New Trailer for The Color Purple Musical https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-new-trailer-for-the-color-purple-musical/ Tue, 12 Dec 2023 16:49:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80088 Steven Spielberg may have remade West Side Story, but now one of his films are getting the musical reboot treatment with The Color Purple. The movie is set to release in theaters this Christmas, and we have a new trailer showcasing all the musical numbers, choreography, and costumes. Check this out:

A decades-spanning tale of love and resilience and of one woman’s journey to independence. Celie faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.

The musical is being directed by Blitz Basawule and Spielberg himself is also attached as a producer, alongside the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Scott Sanders. As far as the main cast goes, they have some solid performers with Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, and Fantasia Barrino. The cast also includes Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Deon Cole, and Halle Bailey.

Oddly enough, The Color Purple doesn’t seem to be following suit to other musicals that seem to be afraid to tell audiences they are musicals. Not a single trailer for the upcoming Mean Girls or Wonka had sampled any of the songs that would be in their pictures; Color Purple, however, is complete with samples of the numbers as well as a look at some of the choreography.

With the stage play of The Color Purple from Marsha Norman being considered a success, fingers are crossed that this new film would be a great introduction to a classic story.

Watch out for The Color Purple when it comes to cinemas this Christmas Dec. 25.

Halle Bailey Stars in First Trailer for The Color Purple Musical https://www.geekfeed.com/first-trailer-for-the-color-purple-musical/ Wed, 24 May 2023 15:06:53 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76946 Star Halle Bailey is set to go under the sea this week as Ariel in the live-action Little Mermaid, but she’s also appearing in the musical remake of Steven Spielberg’s classic The Color Purple.

Just in, we have our first trailer for the film, and it teases a story about sisters that spans multiple generations. Check this out:

The movie is based on the musical stage play by Marsha Norman which was based on the book by Alice Walker. Besides Bailey, the movie also stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino.

For context, here’s the trailer for Spielberg’s The Color Purple which came out back in 1985:

I guess it’s also worth noting that Spielberg himself is attached as a producer for the film, as well as Oprah Winfrey who had acted in Spielberg’s movie. This time, however, directing duties go over to Blitz Bazawule.

The Color Purple is a movie that admittedly falls under a lot of people’s radars, but it’s still considered to be a classic that tackles some very serious subject matter. With the musical element added, this should add a new flavor to the classic story. After West Side Story, who knew that Spielberg actually had a penchant for musicals after all this time.

The Color Purple premieres in theaters on Dec. 25. You can catch Bailey this week when The Little Mermaid comes into cinemas May 26.

Disney Wants to Make an Indiana Jones Spinoff Series https://www.geekfeed.com/disney-wants-an-indiana-jones-spinoff-series/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 09:05:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71972 Lucasfilm may be taking a break from theatrical releases, but they’ve been pretty trigger happy when it comes to Disney+ series. With non-Star Wars IP Willow getting its own series, it looks like Lucasfilm wants another franchise coming to the streaming service.

Variety reports that Disney is currently looking for a writer to develop a series based in the world of Indiana Jones. It’s not clear if the series would tie in to the film, but we shouldn’t expect Harrison Ford to reprise Indy for the show. He’s already said the upcoming fifth film would be his last time playing the character, and at his age, I don’t really expect him to commit to a series.

Then again, he has signed up to take over as Thunderbolt Ross for the MCU, so maybe he does have a bit of drive to join a franchise.

I personally can’t think of a spinoff series that could work, considering that Indiana Jones essentially operates in the ‘real world’ with occasional magical things happening. What really ties the franchise together is the character of Indiana Jones. I guess they can make some kind of origin prequel with a younger actor, or they could spinoff whoever Phoebe Waller-Bridge is playing in the upcoming film—then again, I expect her to lead the franchise moving forward with theatrically released films. Then again, I’m just speculating.

The next Indiana Jones film is yet to receive a title, but the movie is expected to come out June 30, 2023.

Light & Magic Docuseries about Legendary VFX Studio https://www.geekfeed.com/light-magic-docuseries-about-legendary-vfx-studio/ Sat, 09 Jul 2022 01:59:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=69973 Industrial Light and Magic has been bringing us big screen marvels for decades from films as early as the first Star Wars to the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Now Disney is shedding light on the story of ILM with their own docuseries Light & Magic.

Watch the trailer for Light & Magic down here:

Showcasing the people of Industrial Light and Magic, the special effects division of Lucasfilm, this series takes us back in time as they create the effects for some of the biggest and most successful films of the last 45 years.

As you can see, ILM has a pretty solid filmography under their belt, not just with classic movies like E.T. and Indiana Jones, but with more modern titles like the Avengers movies as well as the new Star Wars series. It’s also no mystery that the docu would be able to land a lot of huge directors to tell their story, what with George Lucas, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, and James Cameron having interviews as well.

Let’s also not forget Lucasfilm president and rockstar producer Kathleen Kennedy who has had a storied career of producing the most iconic films.

Though there has been a lot of criticism with overreliance on CG today, ILM has always been lauded for being pioneers in the medium, and continuing to push the technology to its limits, be it the iconic Death Star trench run from Star Wars or the completely photo-real character of Davy Jones from the Pirates films.

Light & Magic starts streaming on Disney+ on July 27.

West Side Story Lead Reveals She Wasn’t Invited to the Oscars https://www.geekfeed.com/west-side-story-lead-reveals-she-wasnt-invited-to-the-oscars/ Mon, 21 Mar 2022 11:31:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64523 Despite being dubbed a box office bomb, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story was so critically acclaimed that it managed to nab seven Oscar nominations. A lot of people are excited to see how the movie will fare during the ceremonies, but you know who won’t be coming to the show? The film’s main star.

As it turns out, newcomer Rachel Zegler hasn’t been invited to the Oscars. She revealed this to one of her fans on her IG (via @solacecinema):

Her comments have incited outrage on social media, and a lot of fans are wondering who is to blame. While some are saying it’s the Academy’s fault, some are also pointing fingers at Disney—a company that was recently caught under fire thanks to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

If anything, Zegler is very thankful to all the fans who came out to show their support. We don’t know if she’ll eventually come to the Oscars, but I’m sure there is some PR team that is currently scrambling to find out what to say about Zegler’s non-invitation.

West Side Story has proven to have a very unique reputation with pop culture right now. Besides its main actress being snubbed by the Oscars, Zegler’s co-star Ansel Elgort has also been the topic of heavy scrutiny thanks to some underage chat messages. We don’t know how the film will do overall at the Academy Awards, but hopefully Zegler gets to come to the event.

Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is now available to watch on Disney+ and HBO Max.

Indiana Jones 5 Wraps Filming https://www.geekfeed.com/indiana-jones-5-wraps-filming/ Mon, 28 Feb 2022 15:57:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64263 Harrison Ford has been closing the book on many of his iconic past roles, and he’s set to come back as the whip-slinging Indiana Jones this July. We don’t have a look at the movie yet, but it’s been announced that production has officially wrapped filming.

This comes from Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall:

We also got this post from director James Mangold:

We’ve yet to get an official look at the cast yet, but seeing that the movie has wrapped, we could be getting some official images soon.

No official plot has been revealed for Indiana Jones 5 yet, but it has been speculated that this will be Ford’s final run as Indy, and that the torch will be passed on to whoever Phoebe Waller-Bridge is playing.

When The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out, it looked like the franchise was preparing for Shia LaBeouf to take over any future installments. With the movie being poorly received—and LaBeouf undergoing some personal drama—it looks like Lucasfilm had to go back to the drawing board.

While the studio does seem to want the franchise to go on, I’m completely fine with the film just focusing on Indy and closing his story. If you ask me, there are already too many globe-trotting adventure franchises going around (Uncharted, Tomb Raider) that the Indy franchise doesn’t really need to compete with them. We should just get a solid story that concludes the arc of one of cinema’s most beloved characters.

Catch Indiana Jones when it comes out July 29.

Jurassic World Dominion Prologue Released https://www.geekfeed.com/jurassic-world-dominion-prologue-released/ Wed, 24 Nov 2021 16:41:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62572 Love or hate Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the end of the movie had brought something never-before-seen in the Jurassic franchise which is dinosaurs roaming free all over the world. The dino-pocalypse had been teased in the short Battle at Big Rock, and now Universal has released the first five minutes of Jurassic World Dominion.

Watch the footage for Dominion down here:

This original 5 min prologue to Jurassic World Dominion, directed by Colin Trevorrow, rockets audiences back 65 million years into the past to experience the world before humans existed—and offers a glimpse of a world in which dinosaurs are living among us.

The prologue essentially gives us a look at prehistoric times when the dinosaur DNA is trapped inside the mosquitoes, and then it flash forwards to the ‘present’ where dinosaurs have been released into civilization—with one letting loose in a drive-in theater.

While we’ve always had stories where people get trapped in the Isla Nublar, and we’ve had a story where one dinosaur gets let loose in a city. Now Dominion is really looking to shake things up by having dinosaurs walk the literal Earth. With Fallen Kingdom tackling the ethical issues of keeping the dinosaurs alive, what will humans do when they are faced with being replaced as the dominant species on the planet?

It’s a very interesting take on Jurassic, and while I’m bummed that director Colin Trevorrow didn’t get to make his Star Wars film, hopefully he can bring a satisfying conclusion to this IP that he started.

Could Phoebe Waller-Bridge be the Next Lead of the Indiana Jones Franchise? https://www.geekfeed.com/could-phoebe-waller-bridge-be-the-next-lead-of-the-indiana-jones-franchise/ Mon, 13 Sep 2021 16:22:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61460 It seemed that the Indiana Jones franchise was setting Shia LaBeouf up to be the next lead in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but poor reception of the film led to those plans being cancelled. Now Lucasfilm is giving Indy one more go, and rumor has it that producer Kathleen Kennedy wants to shake things up when it comes to the new franchise lead.

As per Mail Online, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Solo: A Star Wars Story), who is currently cast in Indiana Jones 5, could be set up to replace Harrison Ford as the new lead of Indiana Jones. Sources say that Kennedy plans to make ‘big, bold’ changes to the franchise, and it includes having the new lead be a woman. Another source claims, ‘It would be a huge statement, and a great role for Phoebe.’

With Tomb Raider and Jungle Cruise already giving us some spunky female archeologists, Lucasfilm has to find a way to give Waller-Bridge’s character her own charm that would make the character feel original. With Waller-Bridge having a penchant for playing very unique, outspoken characters, I hope she has some input in how her new character will be written.

Then again, we don’t know if Waller-Bridge is going to be the next lead yet. This is all just a rumor for now, and until Lucasfilm or Disney gives us some official details, that’s all we really have.

West Side Story Gets Special Look Video https://www.geekfeed.com/west-side-story-gets-special-look-video/ Fri, 30 Jul 2021 07:17:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60788 Though Steven Spielberg has best been known for his blockbuster franchises with dazzling visuals and gigantic setpieces, one thing that fans didn’t know about the legendary filmmaker was his love for the classic West Side Story. Spielberg’s remake is set to come out in the holiday season, and we have a new look at the film.

Just in case you didn’t know, West Side Story is a modern re-imagining of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and tells the story of Tony and Maria, two young people who fall in love despite being connected to rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.

Besides the music by Stephen Sondheim, the movie is best known for its intense dance sequences. It’s as if the violence that’s supposed to be depicted in the story show themselves in the form of dance; and when it comes to the film, the camera is used very creatively when it moves—something you can see that’s influenced the way Spielberg uses his camera in his films.

Despite all its praises, West Side Story has also received flak for casting white actors in roles of Latinx characters. Hopefully with this film, Spielberg won’t fall into the same pitfalls; we should also expect some more boundary-pushing when it comes to the filmmaking—as expected of Spielberg. If anything, the trailers already look amazing, and I can’t wait to hear samples of the rest of the music.

Here’s the synopsis for the original West Side Story:

A musical in which a modern day Romeo and Juliet are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the upper west side, two gangs battle for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when a gang members falls in love with a rival’s sister.

Indiana Jones 5 Set Photos Show Phoebe Waller-Bridge in 60s Get-Up https://www.geekfeed.com/indiana-jones-5-set-photos-show-phoebe-waller-bridge-in-60s-get-up/ Sun, 18 Jul 2021 03:39:15 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60570 Indiana Jones 5 is finally pushing forward with director James Mangold, and the movie has managed to gather up quite an impressive cast.

While everyone is waiting to see an official photo of Harrison Ford in costume, some new set photos that have come up online reveal Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) in a 60s outfit. Check it out:

We don’t know who Waller-Bridge is playing in the movie yet, but some are suspecting that the film will set her up as the new protagonist of the franchise; something Crystal Skull was attempting with Shia LaBeouf. With the last Indy film not being well-received though, I think it would be alright if Lucasfilm made this their proper sendoff of Ford as the character—seeing as he probably won’t have the energy to pull off another one of these.

No plot has been revealed for Indiana Jones 5 yet, but a rumor is going around that the story will involve the Space Race of the 60s, and Mads Mikkelsen is playing a Nazi scientist who is hired by the US to put a man on the moon. Since this is Indiana Jones, we should expect some kind of fantasy element to the plot, but so far, we don’t have any hints of that.

With Star Wars taking a hiatus in cinemas, hopefully Lucasfilm has other projects that they can focus on. While I do miss Star Wars in the big screen, I think a breather is what the studio needs after the BTS fiasco that was The Rise of Skywalker.

Catch Indiana Jones 5 when it releases on July 29, 2022.

Harrison Ford Injured on Indiana Jones 5 Set https://www.geekfeed.com/harrison-ford-injured-on-indiana-jones-5-set/ Thu, 24 Jun 2021 14:20:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60213 With Kingdom of the Crystal Skull not considered to be a proper sendoff for Indiana Jones, Lucasfilm is back to work with a fifth movie. Harrison Ford is back to reprise the world’s most famous archeologist, but it looks like he’ll be out for a while.

As per Variety, Ford has sustained a shoulder injury while rehearsing for one of his fight scenes. A spokesperson for Disney said:

“In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder… Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

We don’t know how serious Ford’s injury is, but it’s said that the film is going to have to rework its shooting schedule without Ford. Hopefully he won’t have to be out of it for too long.

At 78-years-old, a lot of people are wondering why Ford would agree to do one more Indiana Jones film; heck, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was already poking fun at how old Ford was. That being said, with the last Indy film kind of leaving a sour taste in the mouth, it would make sense for the franchise to have one more stab at sending off Indy. Hopefully director James Mangold manages to top his sendoff of Wolverine in Logan.

We don’t have a story for the film yet, but it’s rumored that it will have something to do with the Space Race of the 1960s. Until we get some official confirmation, that’s the best that fans have got.

For now, Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Teams Up with Netflix for Multi-Picture Deal https://www.geekfeed.com/steven-spielbergs-amblin-teams-up-with-netflix-for-multi-picture-deal/ Wed, 23 Jun 2021 15:27:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60190 While there are industry titans like Christopher Nolan championing the theatrical experience, it looks like one Hollywood legend is going to be jumping the fence with Steven Spielberg.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin has signed a partnership with Netflix. The deal is said to have Amblin ‘produce multiple films for the streamer per year.’ Besides this deal with Netflix, Amblin has also made a deal with Universal, but in that case, it will be for theatrical releases. This deal with Netflix is said to help Amblin increase its film slate.

Spielberg said in a statement:

“At Amblin, storytelling will forever be at the center of everything we do, and from the minute Ted (Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer) and I started discussing a partnership, it was abundantly clear that we had an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach audiences in new ways… This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together with Ted, and I can’t wait to get started with him, Scott, and the entire Netflix team.”

On Netflix’s end, Sarandos said, “Steven is a creative visionary and leader and, like so many others around the world, my growing up was shaped by his memorable characters and stories that have been enduring, inspiring and awakening. We cannot wait to get to work with the Amblin team and we are honored and thrilled to be part of this chapter of Steven’s cinematic history.”

We don’t have any details yet on what projects Amblin will make for the Netflix platform, but with shows like Stranger Things drawing heavily from Spielberg’s filmography, you would think that Amblin would be making more family-friendly adventure dramas.

Though Spielberg was one of the more harsh critics of streaming back then, this change is certainly an indication of a change of heart.

Watch the First Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-the-first-trailer-for-steven-spielbergs-west-side-story/ Wed, 28 Apr 2021 10:29:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59252 While Steven Spielberg is no longer directing the next Indiana Jones movie, he is putting all of his focus on a passion project in the form of a remake of Arthur Laurents’ West Side Story. The movie is set to come out this December, and we finally have  new trailer that’s been dropped at the same time as the Oscars.

Watch the trailer for West Side Story here:

Just in case you didn’t know about West Side Story, it’s a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, but instead of warring families, you have warring gangs of teenagers, all fighting in the setting of 1950s America. The story follows the romance of Tony (Ansel Elgort), who is a close friend of the Jets, and Maria (Rachel Zegler), the sister of the leader of the Sharks.

Though the 1961 film is considered to be a classic (Spielberg has even said that he considers it one of his biggest influences), it has aged in the sense that the movie had whitewashed several Puerto Rican characters by casting white actors; even the lead, Natalie Wood, who is of Russian descent, was cast as leading lady Maria.

Looking back, it’s ironic that the movie whitewashes characters when racial tension is such a huge issue—an issue that the US is still facing to this day.

One thing that hasn’t aged though, is West Side Story’s fantastic choreography and camera work. With modern filmmaking techniques and Spielberg’s signature style, we should expect nothing short of spectacular when it comes to the remake.

Spielberg’s West Side Story is set to come to theaters on Dec. 10.

Steven Spielberg’s Blackhawks Still in Development https://www.geekfeed.com/steven-spielbergs-blackhawks-still-in-development/ Mon, 19 Apr 2021 15:14:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59163 It had been years since we got an update on Steven Spielberg’s Blackhawks movie, and with projects like New Gods and The Trench getting cancelled, it would only seem fair to think that Blackhawks was dropped as well. As it turns out, the movie is still pretty much a go.

This has been confirmed by the film’s screenwriter David Koepp via an IG post:

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by David Koepp (@dgkoepp)

While Spielberg is busy producing the next Indiana Jones film and finishing up his West Side Story reboot, he is still attached to produce and direct this Blackhawks film. By any case, some fans think he will eventually just hand over the reins to a new director, much like he did with James Mangold and Indy 5.

We don’t know what story the Blackhawks movie will have, but in the comics, the Blackhawk Squadrdon was a team of WWII-era ace pilots who went on their own specialized missions. For a while, a lot of people thought that Wonder Woman’s Saïd Taghmaoui (Sameer) was going to be part of the film, and were even expecting some kind of callback or reference in Wonder Woman 1984.

Until we get an official update from DC, all we can really do is wait. While I’m all up for another period piece with Blackhawks, I think it would be fine to tell a more modern story, seeing as the Wonder Woman solo films have been nothing but period pieces. I just want to keep the DCEU timeline moving forward rather than frequently flashing back.

No release date has been set for Blackhawks.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Cast as Female Lead of Indiana Jones 5 https://www.geekfeed.com/phoebe-waller-bridge-cast-as-female-lead-of-indiana-jones-5/ Mon, 12 Apr 2021 14:15:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59064 Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge had acted alongside Alden Ehrenreich in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and now it looks like she’s going to be working with Lucasfilm again to act alongside the original Han Solo.

As per Deadline, Waller-Bridge has been cast in the next Indiana Jones film that will be directed by James Mangold. She will also be starring alongside Harrison Ford, who at the age of 78, is still set to come back as the world’s most interesting archeologist.

No details have been revealed about Waller-Bridge’s character, but hopefully this time we’ll actually get to see her face, as compared to Solo where she was covered in a mo-cap suit, playing the sassy droid L3-37.

While Kingdom of the Crystal Skull kind of teased the idea that Shia LaBeouf would be the new lead of the Indy franchise, the terrible reception of the movie is what lead to the idea being shelved. Now Lucasfilm is ready to bring Ford back (hopefully for the last time), and maybe this time it can either be the definitive end/or new beginning for the franchise.

Indy 5 is set to come out sometime in 2022, which seems like a release date too soon, counting that the industry is still slowly getting back on its feet from the pandemic. Then again, the film has been delayed multiple times already, and it’s very likely pre-production has wrapped for a while, just waiting for everything to get up and running.

Indiana Jones 5 is expected to come out in July 29, 2022.
