Episode 6: Immortal Emerges from Cave

6 Iron Fist Is Frustrating, Confusing, and Sometimes EnjoyableRemember how I said the show seemed to finally be going somewhere? It’s going towards martial arts rituals and death tournaments. Danny’s journey has one major flaw, he never gives enough context to be understood. Claire offers a very true statement: “The more [Danny] talks, the weirder things get.” I like the self-awareness that translates in her dialogue, but, other than minor acknowledgements, the show does nothing to fix these things.

I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. It feels like a modernized kung-fu movie with its leveled fight challenges. It feels like the climax of a good video game. The way it delves into the Immortal Weapons lore is really interesting. These characters are introduced with an individual allure, (especially Jane Kim’s Bride of Nine Spiders) and I hope they’re not a one-time appearance. I reiterate my fear of Madame Gao; she seems harmless, but then she’s pushing people without touching them.

At the beginning of the series Danny said he was in New York for the Hand, then it seemed like he was there to re-acquaint himself with his father’s company, and now Gao is questioning his true motivations. I, too, wonder what they are.
