SDCC 2019 gave us some new details for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but besides Zemo’s return, we don’t know that much about the show. What’s interesting is, it’s possible we can watch Sam Wilson’s transition into becoming the new Captain America; but the thing is, he’s going to be getting a lot of resistance from the government.

This comes from Mike Bernadin who talked about the details on Kevin Smith’s Fatman Beyond. When the show started talking about TFATWS, he revealed:

“That, I think, is the crux of what that show’s going to be… The government doesn’t want Sam Wilson to be Captain America… He’s got the shield, they don’t want him to have it. They want someone else to be Captain America.”

The segment starts at 59:25:

Though Bernadin seems very sure about his news, the source is still kind of ambiguous, so it’s best we take it with a grain of salt for now. Hopefully we can get some official details at the D23 Expo this August, but seeing as the show is still coming out late next year, I’m sure Marvel is going to reveal new details next year. What are the odds that we’re going to get a teaser with the Black Widow movie?

Going back to the show though, I can see the government being against Sam Wilson becoming the new Captain America. Ever since Civil War, we’ve seen Falcon resist the government, and by the time we meet him in Infinity War, he’s basically a fugitive alongside Steve Rogers. If anything, they would want someone they could keep in line to be the new Captain America. Someone like military man Col. James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine? He already has the suit for it.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to come out on Disney+ in the fall of next year.
