It’s been half a decade since Hammer had shown up on the big screen of any MCU project, but rumor has it he could be making a return.

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie), Rockwell is currently in talks to reprise Justin Hammer for the upcoming series-turned-movie Armor Wars. There aren’t any details besides Rockwell being in talks, but his return does make a lot of sense, seeing that Hammer was trying his best to create Iron Man armor alternatives—plus he was the person who modded the first War Machine suit for Rhodey.

Marvel’s What If…? fans also know that Rockwell just recently reprised the role of Justin Hammer this year; playing a variant of Hammer that takes over Avengers tower during Christmastime. It was just a voice role, but the writers still had fun with the character, what with his theatrical flair, dancing and making quips.

If anything, we should take the news of Rockwell’s return with a grain of salt, but with Marvel currently looking back at their more unique villains, Justin Hammer was definitely one of the more memorable ones. Let’s just hope that the appearance on What If leads to more things down the line. Would it be so hard to have Hammer be the Q of the Thunderbolts team?

Armor Wars is allegedly eyeing a release sometime in 2026 but has no official release date.

Hayley Atwell Admits to Being ‘Frustrated’ with Cameo in Doctor Strange 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/atwell-frustrated-with-cameo-in-doctor-strange-2/ Mon, 17 Jul 2023 10:51:54 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77843 It was no mystery that fans thought the Illuminati was underused in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and apparently one star agrees with them—Hayley Atwell a.k.a. Captain Peggy Carter.

Talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Variety), Atwell expresses how she thought her character was underused in the Doctor Strange sequel. She says, “I’m like, ‘That wasn’t my choice!’… When she was like, ‘I could do this all day’ and then followed by she’s immediately cut in half by a frisbee. And the audience being like, ‘She can’t do it all day. Apparently you can’t, so, egg on your face.’ That doesn’t really serve Peggy very well.”

For context, Atwell made a cameo as an alternate version of Captain America called Captain Carter who served as a member of a council that oversees the multiverse called the Illuminati. When the Scarlet Witch attacks the Illuminati HQ, she makes quick work of the members, cutting Captain Carter in half with her shield.

if it’s any consolation, none of the Illuminati characters were given a proper time to shine since they were mostly just there to be cameos. If one Illuminati member got the spotlight, it was definitely Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, who even had a mindscape battle with Wanda—which he still ultimately lost.

Though Captain Carter may have only had minutes of screentime in MoM, her full fleshed out alternate timeline is explained in the animated Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+. It’s unclear if that’s the same Carter that got killed in the film, but there is definitely room for her to come back in the future.

We don’t know if we’ll see Captain Carter again in the future, but you can check out her full story in Marvel’s What If…? now streaming on Disney+.

Marvel’s What If…? Introduces New Character Kahhori https://www.geekfeed.com/marvels-what-if-introduces-new-character-kahhori/ Tue, 14 Mar 2023 11:46:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=74050 Though it feels like Marvel’s What If…? was a one-and-done show, Disney+ is gearing up for a second season, and we have the introduction of a completely new character in the form of Kahhori.

Here’s a first look at her from Marvel.com:

Kahhori

The official description reads:

What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.

The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.

We don’t really know much about the MCU’s history pre-colonization, but it would be interesting to see Kahhori’s story clash with Wakanda and Talokan, which are both also ancient civilizations in the Marvel canon.

It’s also worth noting that Kahhori’s episode is going to be in the Mohawk language, and is going to take place in the Akwesasne region which is now upstate New York. Doug George, a Mohawk language expert who had worked with writer Ryan Little for the episode explains:

“It tells a remarkable story from a Native-Mohawk perspective which is truly unique and historical, and will give the viewers a new, challenging and entertaining perspective on this land’s first peoples. The story is dramatic, the characters fully realized, and the action sequences are breathtaking… The episode is exceptional in another sense–it is done with the complete cooperation of the Mohawk people from dialogue to adornment.”

As of now, What If…? Season 2 still has no release date, but you can catch the first season now available on Disney+.

Did Marvel’s What If…? Just Pull a Star Wars Crossover? https://www.geekfeed.com/did-marvels-what-if-just-pull-a-star-wars-crossover/ Fri, 01 Oct 2021 15:01:54 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61754 Ever since Avengers in 2012, Marvel Studios has been the pioneer when it comes to cinematic crossovers, and though every MCU entry has been in the realm of the same IP, What If…? just pulled off what some fans consider a Star Wars crossover.

As per @marveleastereggs on TikTok (via @TheSWU), in the scene where the Watcher is fighting Ultron and they’re crashing through several universes, on universe that they stumble upon looks a lot like Mustafar from Star Wars, and you can even spot Vader’s castle in the background.

Watch this:

https://twitter.com/TheSWU/status/1443700972937752586

While there are some fans who are already losing their minds over the meaning of this crossover, I think it’s just a nice neat easter egg on the artists’ part. I mean, Mustafar is a very colourful planet that could set itself apart even for just a split second onscreen, so it would make sense that they would want it to be part of the sequence. If entire legions of fans can argue endlessly over what’s canon and not, just imagine the backlash of implying that Star Wars and Marvel can exist in the same universe?

Though the show had initially presented itself as an anthology series, the last episode has finally decided to bring us to a more connected, serialized plot. While I don’t expect the series to have any large-scale ramifications to the live-action MCU, it does give us a glimpse of what a crazy multiverse story could look like if Marvel was to have a go at it.

Catch the finale of Marvel’s What If…? when it premieres next week on Disney+.

Hayley Atwell to Voice Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Anime https://www.geekfeed.com/hayley-atwell-to-voice-lara-croft-in-tomb-raider-anime/ Thu, 16 Sep 2021 07:03:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61521 Hayley Atwell made a small Marvel return when she voiced Captain Carter in What If…? and now she’s coming back for a bigger animation gig with Netflix.

According to Variety, Atwell has been cast as Lara Croft in an upcoming animated series based on Square Enix’s Tomb Raider reboot. The story is said to pick up after the events of the Tomb Raider trilogy and is expected to feature all the classic tropes of the franchise like intricate tombs and adventurous treasure hunting.

Since this is a continuation of a trilogy, it’s curious that the show wouldn’t bring back the original voice actress of the reboots Camilla Luddington, but I guess the show wanted someone with a bit of star power to boost interest in the series; and I guess Alicia Vikander would have been too expensive to get. Though a sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider is said to be in the works, I think a lot more fans are familiar with Lara’s story in the games.

25 years after its debut, the Tomb Raider franchise manages to keep its pop-culture status, and Lara Croft is a household name. Though we’ve gotten several iterations of the character over the years, some things never change, like Lara’s use of double handguns, her long brown hair in a ponytail, and her British accent. Let’s wait and see what the upcoming Netflix anime series adds to the iconic character. It’ll be interesting to hear Atwell voice the character in the upcoming show.

No release date has been set for Netflix’s anime-inspired Tomb Raider series, but hopefully we can get a first look before the year ends. Catch Atwell in Marvel’s What If…? now on Disney+.

What If…? Mid-Season Trailer Teases a Multiverse Team-Up https://www.geekfeed.com/what-if-mid-season-trailer-teases-a-multiverse-team-up/ Thu, 16 Sep 2021 06:47:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61488 Marvel has been shaking things up with Phase 4 introducing us different types of stories with WandaVision and Loki. We were getting an anthology treatment with the What If…? series, but it looks like this could all build up to a  connected ending.

The mid-season trailer for What If…? sort of confirms a team-up with characters like Captain Carter, T’Challa’s Star-Lord, and both Doctor Stranges. Watch this:

It’s unclear what the team-up (if there even will be a team-up) is about, but with the last episode ending in a cliffhanger, it’s possible that these “Heroes of the Multiverse” will come together to battle zombie Thanos. I mean, with the original Thanos actually having “good” intentions, what kind of villain would a mindless zombie Thanos be?

While endless praise has been showered on Marve’s Disney+ shows like WandaVision and Loki, there has been a little less buzz when it comes to What If…?. I’ll admit, the concepts for the episodes are very interesting, but the writing is pretty flimsy in some places. Besides some corny dialogue, there are some moments that don’t make narrative sense and are kind of brushed under the rug to get to the real “meat” of the episode.

Then again, this is just an anthology series, and I don’t think it’s telling fans to take it too seriously. While they can all be canon with the concept of the Multiverse, I don’t think there are going to be any real stakes when it comes to the main MCU timeline. Then again, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Catch Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+ with new episodes every Wednesday.

Watch Stunning Animation in First Trailer for Star Wars: Visions https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-stunning-animation-in-first-trailer-for-star-wars-visions/ Wed, 18 Aug 2021 16:44:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61071 Disney+ had just premiered their animated show for Marvel Studios, and with all the hype surrounding What If…? we now have a new trailer for the animated Star Wars anthology series, Visions.

Watch the trailer for Visions down here:

Just in case you didn’t know, these are all non-canon stories that take place within the universe of Star Wars. We’ve known for a while that we would be following different original characters, but this is the first time we have a look at some familiar locations (like the Mos Espa Grand Arena from Phantom Menace) as well as characters.

Here’s the list of anime studios and their entries in Visions:

Kamikaze Douga The Duel

Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō

Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody

Trigger – The Twins

Trigger – The Elder

Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride

Science Saru – Akakiri

Science Saru – T0-B1

Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

The series looks absolutely amazing, and a lot of animation fans can appreciate its distinct look from existing animated Star Wars material like The Clone Wars or Rebels. Personally, I was hoping that Resistance was going to adapt this anime art-style, but you can’t have it all.

Hopefully the success of Visions will let Lucasfilm explore the idea of more 2D-animated properties down the line. With Star Wars being known for its dazzling visuals and heartfelt stories, there’s just so much room to explore with this medium. How about a Star Wars: Legends series covering the debunked material from the EU?

Catch Star Wars: Visions when it premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 22.

Marvel Legends Gives Great Look at Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Characters https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-legends-gives-great-look-at-marvels-what-if-characters/ Fri, 30 Jul 2021 09:02:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60793 After the success of Loki, Marvel’s next Disney+ show, What If…? Is going the animated route. We already have a couple of teasers, but thanks to Hasbro Pulse, we have a better look at some characters as well as their names.

Watch the full showcase here:

Included in the list of characters in this What If…? Wave are T’Challa Star Lord, Heist Nebula, Captain Carter, Dr. Strange Supreme, Zombie Hunter Spider-Man, and Zombie Captain America. The series Build-A-Figure is also that of Uatu the Watcher.

Though it isn’t part of the BAF wave, we’re also getting a HYDRA Stomper a.k.a. the ‘Iron Man’ suit that Steve Rogers pilots after Peggy Carter is given the super soldier serum. The figure doesn’t open to reveal a tiny Steve Rogers inside it though.

While there are a lot of very simple “What If” narratives that the show can follow, there are definitely some concepts that we didn’t expect. I mean, how in the world is T’Challa going to make it from Wakanda to space? Personally, I want to tackle the timeline where Gamora takes up Thanos’ position; likely the one where Nebula is also a non-cyborg.

With Marvel’s first 23 films tackling the Infinity Stones, some are guessing that the next phase of Marvel is going to be the ‘Multiverse Saga’. I’m not really expecting Kevin Feige and his team to have a well thought-out plan, but I am more open to experimentation this time around.

Marvel’s What If…? premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 11.

Disney+ Drops First Look at Star Wars Visions https://www.geekfeed.com/disney-drops-first-look-at-star-wars-visions/ Wed, 07 Jul 2021 09:36:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60386 When Star Wars Visions was first announced for Disney+, a lot of fans (myself included) thought that it would be SW’s version of Marvel’s What if…?. Now Disney has dropped a new look at the series, and it reveals a show that has its very own unique feel.

Check out the special look at Star Wars Visions down here:

While Galaxy of Adventures was considered to be an anime-inspired SW project, Lucasfilm has gone all out with Visions, collaborating with anime studios for these non-canon anthology stories. Here are the studios and the titles of their shorts for Visions:

Kamikaze Douga The Duel

Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō

Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody

Trigger – The Twins

Trigger – The Elder

Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride

Science Saru – Akakiri

Science Saru – T0-B1

Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

Though we didn’t get any fully-animated clips, we can see that each studio is adapting their own original style when it comes to their episodes. We don’t know how long each entry will be, but with these animated shorts, I think each would be at least longer than 5 minutes.

I was personally hoping that Visions would adapt some Legends material for the older fans of Star Wars, but I’m also up for completely new characters and re-imaginings. Though some shorts focus on new characters, we may also get some alternate-universe stories, what with Trigger’s ‘Dark Side Twins’ storyline.

Star Wars Visions premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 22.
