Rowling for Pro-LGBTQ+ Stance https://www.geekfeed.com/radcliffe-on-being-called-ungrateful-to-rowling/ Sun, 05 May 2024 17:21:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82226 If there has been a fall from grace in the recent few years, it’s definitely Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, whose ant-transgender sentiment has been condemned by other members of the Potter family like Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

With some fans branding Radcliffe as ‘ungrateful’ to Rowling despite her being the reason for his success, Radcliffe says that he doesn’t owe it to Rowling to not have his own opinion on the matter. “Jo, obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person,” Radcliffe tells The Atlantic, “But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.”

For some time, fans of Rowling who share her stance have been calling for actors like Radcliffe to issue apologies for their stance against Rowling, and Rowling herself has commented that they were “celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights.” To which Radcliffe responded, “I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.”

For now, Radcliffe has definitely moved on from the shadow of the boy wizard, and it can be argued that he’s had a flourishing career as compared to the rest of the main Potter trio. Rowling, on the other hand, seems to be stuck in her ‘Wizarding World’ and after the failure of Secrets of Dumbledore, everyone is wondering if its worth sticking around to see what she can bring into the franchise creatively.

For now, Radcliffe is rumored to be making an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to come out

Kate Winslet Stars as WWII Photographer Lee Miller in Trailer for Lee https://www.geekfeed.com/kate-winslet-stars-in-trailer-for-lee/ Sun, 05 May 2024 14:57:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82222 Kate Winslet is no stranger to playing distraught women onscreen, and now Sky Cinema is ready to thrust her into the middle of war with the upcoming biopic Lee.

Watch the star-studded trailer here:

Here’s the official description:

LEE tells the story of Lee Miller (Winslet), American photographer. Determined to document the truth of the Nazi regime, and in spite of the odds stacked against female correspondents, Lee captured some of the most important images of World War II, for which she paid an enormous personal price.

Lee Miller the person actually has a very interesting life before she was going off to warzones to take photos. She was actually a fashion model herself in New York City in the 20s, before she became a photographer herself, taking pictures for Vogue.

Besides Winslet, the movie also includes the likes of Alexander Skarsgard, Marion Cotillard, Josh O’Connor, and Andrea Riseborough. Probably the most susprising member of the cast is one Andy Samberg, who has since been pivoting over to more serious roles, even if he is best known for his comedy work.

It’s also worth noting that Lee will be the directorial debut of cinematographer Ellan Kuras who had worked with Winslet years before in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

If Mare of Easttown has taught us anything, it’s that Winslet is still one powerhouse of an actress, and I can’t wait to see how she helps tell the story of Lee Miller, who by all acccounts was an amazing person on her own right.

Lee is set to release in theaters on Sept. 13.

Lex Luthor Arrives in New Trailer for Second Season of My Adventures with Superman https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-s02-of-my-adventures-with-superman/ Sun, 05 May 2024 14:37:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82218 Everyone may be waiting on James Gunn’s reboot of Superman with David Corenswet, but the Man of Steel has found a renewed take in Adult Swim’s My Adventures with Superman.

The second season is set to premiere this month, and we have a new trailer showcasing some new villains—specifically Superman’s comic nemesis Lex Luthor. Check this out:

The official synopsis for Season 2 reads:

“In the second season, the three best friends face a host of new threats. Powerful foes will emerge from Clark’s alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman, Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty and love like never before.”

No doubt, Lex is the biggest reveal in the trailer, and just like his live-action counterpart, it looks like he’s going to be some kind of tech mogul. While Superman is known to look very strong and sturdy, this Lex is a bit scrawny and young; everyone is already wondering how he’s going to lose his hair, and they imagine it’s going to be brutal.

On the other hand, it does look like the world is starting to expand more outside of the City of Metropolis with the arrival of Amanda Waller. It could be a matter of time before we get this series version of Task Force X/Suicide Squad or a crossover with another hero.

The second season of My Adventures with Superman is set to premiere on Adult Swim and Max on May 25.

X-Men ’97: Animation Comes to Life in X-Mansion Reveal from Airbnb https://www.geekfeed.com/x-men-97-animation-comes-to-life-in-x-mansion/ Sun, 05 May 2024 14:02:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82213 X-Men ’97 has just kicked off their 3-part finale, and what better way for Airbnb to give fans a look at one of their Airbnb Icon locations—Professor Charles Xavier’s X-Mansion.

Check this out:

Here’s the official descripition:

As part of Airbnb Icons, renters can stay in the X-Mansion based on the animated series “X-Men ’97.” It features living spaces and recreation areas with traces of its mutant residents.

We’ve had a look at these themed houses before with IP like Batman and Barbie, and this mansion looks to be decked out to cater specifically to the animated X-Men fans.

Not only do we get iconic locations from the show like the Danger Room and the X-Men’s control room, but the entire mansion has also been stylized to look like a frame from the animated series, with the lines going all around the furniture and walls.

You’ll also notice that the photos are all animated as well, with some imagery coming from the rebooted show on Disney+. Die-hard fans will also know all about the Easter Eggs located in each of the rooms—like the photo of Scott and Jean that Wolverine was known to pine over.

We may not be getting a movie any time soon, but the X-Men are certainly back with this new series. With showrunner Beau DeMayo fired, we don’t know how long Marvel wants to to continue this reboot, but fans are definitely loving what DeMayo has delivered so far.

Catch X-Men ’97 now showing on Disney+.

LOTR: Rings of Power Director, “A Lot of People Judged The Show Before It Even Came Out” https://www.geekfeed.com/lotr-rings-of-power-director-discusses-series/ Sun, 05 May 2024 13:50:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82201 Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power may not have been able to compete with the hype of House of the Dragon, but the series is still worth checking out, and the show is now preparing to come back for a second season.

No trailers or previews have been dropped yet, but series director Charlotte Brändström does talk a bit about coming back for the show and how the story will progress past the first season. Talking to Drama Quarterly, she explains, “…the new season is definitely darker. It’s edgy, there’s more drama. I don’t control everything, but I hope people like it.”

Just like any big IP with an established fandom—like Star Wars or Avatar: The Last Airbender—new creators always find the fandom is almost always impossible to please; and the same goes for Lord of the Rings.

When Rings of Power first came out, there were review bombings online and people complaining about how it wasn’t the Peter Jackson movies or how they drew away from the source material. Brändström addresses these problems:

“The sad thing is a lot of people had judged the show before it even came out, so that was actually tough. But then you try to adapt to that and see what they are really looking for.”

Some fans were mixing Peter Jackson’s films with Tolkien’s work, and we’ve been trying to stay true to Tolkien and give it a really cool look. I love Peter Jackson’s films – that’s why I got involved in the first place. So I guess we’ve tried to mix everything.”

For now, the stage is set with the reveal of Sauron and the creation of Mordor; but there is still the case of the other Rings of Power getting forged. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

In the meantime, catch Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Fallout is Amazon Prime Video’s Second Most-Watched Series https://www.geekfeed.com/fallout-is-amazon-second-most-watched-series/ Sun, 05 May 2024 13:24:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82198 It definitely looked like Amazon had very little faith in Fallout when they announced they would be releasing the full season in one day, but it does seem that the show is managing to do numbers.

According to Variety, Amazon is reporting that the show was able to pull in 65 miliion viewers during its first 16 days available on the platform, making it Amazon’s second most-watched show  ever since they debuted Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power back in 2022.

The show is said to be the most-watched among adults aged 18-34 with most of its audience coming from outside the US—specifically Brazil, France, and the UK.

It’s no mystery that the series has also managed to get a lot of great social media buzz when it debuted, with a 94% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I guess no amount of complaining about the ‘woke agenda’ is going to trump actual good storytelling and worldbuilding.

For now, Amazon has already announced the greenlight for Fallout to get a second season. We don’t know exactly where the series is going, but we do know that the Ghoul is on the search for his family—which is likely around Lucy’s vauly (31-33), and Maximus will be promoted in the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel.

They also teased that Lucy’s father is reaching New Vegas, and gaming fans know there are all kinds of odd factions there as well. Hopefully we get more of this unique take of the Wasteland soon.

Netflix is Developing Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series with Riverdale Producers https://www.geekfeed.com/netflix-developing-live-action-scooby-doo-series/ Fri, 03 May 2024 09:32:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82195 We already got gritty reboots for Archie and Sabrina the Teenage Witch with Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and it looks like another kid-friendly property from their batch is also going to get the gritty reboot treatment.

According to Variety, a live-action Scooby-Doo series is now in development for Netflix via WBTV. Described to be a ‘one-hour drama project,’ the series is said to be nearing a deal that is a script-to-series commitment.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will be writing the series, but they will also executive produce along with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under their Midnight Radio banner (Venom, High Fidelity, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol). It’s also worth noting that the series will be developed under the Berlanti productions banner, the same house that gave us shows like Riverdale, Arrow, Superman & Lois, The Flash, and You.

With the premise of teenagers going around solving crimes and mysteries, it’s actually odd how wholesome the series turned out. It was a no-brainer that a property like Scooby-Doo would get the gritty crime series treatment; I mean, they’re already doing it through animation via the Velma series.

So far, the most popular live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo were the James Gunn-written films which came out back in the 2000s. There have also been TV movies made which came out in 2009 and 2010, but they never really did get the same kind of popularity that the original theaterically released films did.

With Berlanti Productions at the helm, we should be expecting this series to be aiming for the young adult market. I’m just curious if they’re going to have a CGI Scooby running around, or just a normal dog—like what the did with Salem in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

No release date has been announced for the live-action Scooby-Doo series on Netflix.

Jeff Bridges is Returning for TRON: Ares https://www.geekfeed.com/jeff-bridges-is-returning-for-tron-ares/ Fri, 03 May 2024 09:22:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82191 Jeff Bridges had kicked off the TRON franchise back in the ‘80s, and his character was ultimately given his sendoff in TRON: Legacy. We thought that Bridges was ultimately done with the Grid moving forward, but it looks like he’s going to be returning for the upcoming TRON: Ares.

Talking to the Film Comment Podcast (via Deadline), Bridges confirmed, “I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story. Jared Leto is the star of this third one. I’m really anxious to work with him; I’ve admired his work.”

Disney also shared this photo of Bridges, and if you look in the background, you’ll see his classic helmet from the original TRON:

It’s not clear who Bridges could be playing in Ares, but they could always say that his particles just reassembled somewhere else. With Flynn’s program Clu being the primary antagonist of Legacy, it’s possible that they could also find a way to bring him back to cause more chaos.

Then again, the ‘main’ villain of the franchise has always been Master Control and Ed Dillinger, so maybe Ares could be their chance to finally return to the main stage of TRON and become the antagonists that last film was clearly setting up.

Though Legacy wasn’t a critical darling, it was still a cult favorite for a lot of people, and fans have been waiting for years for this follow-up. Sure Jared Leto may not have been the ideal lead, but I’m willing to give Ares a chance to knock my socks off.

TRON: Ares is aiming for a release in Oct. 10, 2025.

Disney Working on Animated Kingdom Hearts Movie? https://www.geekfeed.com/disney-working-on-animated-kingdom-hearts-movie/ Thu, 02 May 2024 11:14:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82171 It was 2002 when Square Enix launched the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and though we have no recent update on Kingdom Hearts IV, Disney seems to be cooking something up on the movie front.

According to The DisInsider, development is currently ongoing for an animated Kingdom Hearts movie. The project was said to have been originally conceived for Disney+, but it was then pivoted to be something made for a theatrical release.

Before you get too excited about seeing Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the big screen though, it’s said that ‘these are just rumblings and nothing has been greenlit.’ For now, Disney doesn’t seem to be too interested in adapting things from video games, but seeing as how The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sonic the Hedgehog have been doing so well in theatres, they could be changing their tune.

The lore for Kingdom Hearts is admittedly too complicated, but essentially it boils down to a Final Fantasy crossover with Disney characters. The game follows Sora, the master of the Keyblade, as he goes on a journey through different Disney-themed worlds to fight against an enemy called The Heartless.

With the game’s story being as complicated as it is, this could be the best time for Disney to swoop in and give new fans a cliffnotes version of Sora’s story; but maybe they should just go the Fallout route and give fans an expansion of the story with the same Final Fantasy meets Disney aesthetic.

I’m sure KH fans would eat that film up if they managed to release it alongside the upcoming game, but that’s just speculation on my part.

A Kingdom Hearts movie has not been officially announced. Kingdom Hearts IV is yet to receive a release date.

Russos Update on Live-Action Hercules for Disney https://www.geekfeed.com/russos-update-on-live-action-hercules-for-disney/ Thu, 02 May 2024 11:00:54 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82168 It was only a matter of time before Disney decided to reboot Hercules for live-action, and the project had the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame) producing the project. Fans were hopeful that the movie could start filming sometime this year, but it looks they would have to wait for longer.

Talking to Total Film the Russos were asked to update on the status of the Hercules movie directed by Guy Ritchie (The Gentlemen, Aladdin), to which they say that they are still waiting on a script” for.

We know that the story of Hercules has been adapted time and again throughout the decades, but the Disney version of the character is unique in that it’s a musical with fantastic humor, and it also has an interesting cartoon lens on what it means to be a celebrity around that time.

So far, rumors have been going around that Disney wanted Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman) for the part of Hercules with Ariana Grande (Wicked) taking on the part of Meg, but with the movie still in development, it’s possible that Disney could end up with someone else for their final couple.

Of course, everyone only wants Danny DeVito for the role of Phil, Hercules’ satyr trainer.  I woulnd’t even mind James Woods’ reprising the role of Hades because he is just fantastic as this used car salesman version of the Lord of the Underworld.

Hopefully theproject pushes through soon, but I would rather we get something more polished an passionate as compared to the live-action Aladdin which feels like Guy Ritchie was just phoning it in.

No release date has been announced for the live-action Hercules.

Last Night in Soho Director Edgar Wright Helped Anya Taylor-Joy Land Furiosa https://www.geekfeed.com/edgar-wright-helped-anya-taylor-joy-land-furiosa/ Wed, 01 May 2024 17:35:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82150 Anya Taylor-Joy is no doubt one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood today, and she’s ready to take over the role of Furiosa in the Mad Max spinoff Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga directed by George Miller.

Though a lot of fans think they should have just brought Charlize Theron back to reprise the role, Miller and Taylor-Joy have revealed that director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho) had helped sell the role to Taylor-Joy to Miller.

Talking to MovieMaker, Miller explained, “I knew from Edgar Wright just how good she was. And so that proved to be the case on this film — very, very rigorous about her role.” Taylor-Joy also shared that it was Wright who told her that Miller wanted to meet with her. She shares:

“I got a text from Edgar Wright, who said George Miller wants to talk to you, and immediately, just my whole body felt electrified.”

We don’t know what Wright is doing now, but he has admittedly started taking it slow since the release of Last Night in Soho. He has two films in the works called The Chain and The Running Man, but we haven’t heard much about those projects yet. Wright did celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Shaun of the Dead —no doubt his breakout film— earlier this month.

Going back to Miller though, a lot of fans have been excited for the return of the Mad Max world since Fury Road came out in 2015. A Mad Max-centered movie may have had a hard time getting off the ground, but maybe a Furiosa spinoff would be just as exciting.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is expected to release in theaters on May 24.

Knives Out Meets Memento in Creepy (and Star-Studded) Trailer for Zoe Kravitz’s Blink Twice https://www.geekfeed.com/star-studded-trailer-for-zoe-kravitzs-blink-twice/ Wed, 01 May 2024 16:19:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82164 Murder-mystery movies are so back since Knives Out and Murder on the Orient Express, and now Zoe Kravitz wants in on that action with her directorial debut dubbed Blink Twice. The movie just dropped its first trailer, and it has a star-studded cast which includes Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, and more.

Check the trailer for Blink Twice out:

Here’s the official description from MGM:

When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. Nobody wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. Something is wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.

The premise of a rich person inviting all of their friends to a private island is pretty much the same setting of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, but add to that a protagonist that’s having gaps in their memory, and you have a dash of Christopher Nolan’s Memento in there.

Admittedly having Kravitz in the director’s chair for the first time does add a lot of pressure on the movie, but with the stellar cast and what looks to be an interesting premise, maybe Blink Twice will manage to surprise everyone.

I mean, Olivia Wilde managed to pull it off. Why not Kravitz?

Besides the previously mentioned cast members, the movie also includes Kyle MacLachlan, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat.

Blink Twice is set to release in theaters on Aug. 23.

Apes Together Strong in New Clip from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes https://www.geekfeed.com/new-clip-from-kingdom-of-the-planet-of-the-apes/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 10:57:01 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82159 The Planet of the Apes franchise is ready to go the sequel-reboot route with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but even if Caesar is long gone by this point, his presence is still pretty much felt.

In a new clip from Kingdom, we have tribe of apes repeating Caesar’s iconic “Apes Together Strong” mantra. Check this out:

Though the last Apes movie only had a couple of apes being able to talk, it does look like all of them are now capable of speech. Albeit, it’s still not as eloquent as human speech, but it does give us a feel of just where the apes are at this point in their evolution as a society.

This time around, the new lead will be in the form of ape Noa (Owen Teague) who, like Caesar, will know the value of the humans—who have devolved into a savage species that the apes like to hunt in this time. The antagonist comes inf the form of Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) who seems to know all about the technological advancements of humans and is keeping it a secret from the all of the apes.

The world is very interesting science fiction and really goes for the Animal Farm themes of what it means to be human/animal. Hopefully they manage to kickoff a new trilogy of great Ape films with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. Apes are the dominant species living harmoniously with one another and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape will undertake a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to come out in theaters on May 8.

Watch: John Krasinski Shares Reunion with Steve Carell After Years Since The Office https://www.geekfeed.com/krasinski-carell-reunion-years-since-the-office/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 10:50:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82146 John Krasinski and Steve Carell may have their Office days way behind them, but the two are reuniting for Krasinski’s upcoming family-adventure movie IF. Just in, Krasinski has shared his reunion with Carell after years since The Office—which he managed to catch on camera.

Check this out:

For context, Carell had left the series in 2010, but he was able to make an appearance in the series finale which aired in 2013. The two haven’t starred in a picture together since, so that makes it roughly eleven years since the two last worked on a project together. Here’s the farewell scene between Jim and Michael from the show:

We don’t know how much Carell and Krasinski’s characters will be interacting in the show, but it is great to see the two together after all these years. Besides The Office alum, the movie has also managed to get a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Sam Rockwell, Jon Stewart, and Maya Rudolph. They even managed to bring in the recently deceased Louis Gossett Jr.

I’ll admit, I was really expecting Krasinski to lean in on the horror movie genre like Jordan Peele, but I’m willing to see what he has to bring into the action-adventure stage. Sure movies for adults are complicated enough to make, but making a kids’ movie that manages to stand the test of time has got to be a different level of masterful.

Catch IF when it comes into theaters this May 17.

Meet the Man Behind the Muppets in Trailer for Jim Henson Idea Man Docu https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-jim-henson-idea-man-docu-released/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 10:47:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82142 Before CGI was even a thing, the only way to get fantastical creatures in live-action was through puppets, and Jim Henson of The Muppets was considered one of creature-works’ most influential figures. We may have lost him back in 1990, but his legacy endures to this day, and now Disney+ is set to release a documentary about him directed by Ron Howard.

Check out the trailer for Jim Henson  Idea Man:

The official description reads:

“Jim Henson Idea Man” takes us into the mind of this singular creative visionary, from his early years puppeteering on local television to the worldwide success of Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and beyond. Featuring unprecedented access to Jim’s personal archives, Howard brings us a fascinating and insightful look at a complex man whose boundless imagination inspired the world.

Though Henson’s muppets did start out as entertainment for children, he was able to branch out and do more visually interesting things with projects like Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.

It was certainly a shock to a lot of people when Henson died at the age of 53, but anyone who’s worked with him can attest to his brilliance when it comes to creating characters and defining the medium of puppetry for decades to come.

The Muppets may not be as big as they were now, but I imagine that generations into the future will still love characters like Kermit the Frog, Fozzy Bear, or Gonzo.

Jim Henson Idea Man starts streaming on Disney+ on May 31.

Watch New Trailer for Studio Colorido’s My Oni Girl https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-studio-coloridos-my-oni-girl/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 10:37:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82137 Studio Colorido has been behind fantastic animated projects from Penguin Highway to Drifting Home, and they’ve just unveiled their next upcoming movie with Netflix called My Oni Girl.

Check the trailer for My Oni Girl out:

Here’s the official description via Netflix:

My Oni Girl follows the journey of Hiiragi (Kensho Ono), a boy who can’t say no for fear of being disliked, and Tsumugi (Miyu Tomita), a spirited oni girl who champions self-expression and openly sharing your feelings. As Hiiragi and Tsumugi navigate their unusual friendship, they uncover truths about themselves and the mysterious conditions that turn humans into oni.

The movie is being helmed by Tomotaka Shibayama who had helmed A Whisker Away for the studio back in 2020. He’s also worked in other notable projects including Your Lie in April, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Silver Spoon.

Though Oni are a very popular kind of creature that we see in fantasy anime all the time, it’s kind of interesting to see them walking around in a fantasy setting; plus they also have the bit of lore that Oni comes from people not expressing their emotions.

No doubt, the animation looks fantastic, and any anime fan would know that Colorido has made for some gorgrous-looking films. Admittedly, A Whisker Away didn’t make that much waves when it came out, but it was still a beautiful film. Hopefully My Oni Girl manages to wow audiences when it comes out in a month.

My Oni Girl coms to theaters and on Netflix this May 24.

Wednesday Season 2 Casts Westworld’s Thandiwe Newton https://www.geekfeed.com/wednesday-season-2-casts-thandiwe-newton/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 10:29:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82130 She may not be coming back for another season of Westworld, but Thandiwe Newton has found herself cast in another mega franchise for Netflix.

According to Variety, Newton has been cast in the second season of Wednesday, the Addams Family spinoff starring Jenna Ortega. No details have been revealed about who Newton would be playing, but we do know that she is joining the cast alongside Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) who is also coming onboard this season.

With the death of Gwendoline Christie’s character Larissa Weems by the end of the first season, it’s possible that either Newton or Buscemi could be playing a character who will be taking over as the head of Nevermore Academy. Though I think that Buscemi could definitely play the principal of goth Hogwarts, it’s likely he could be introduced as another member of the Addams Family—Cousin Itt; he has a distinctive enough voice, and we should expect to see more of Wednesday’s quirky family as the show goes on.

Going back to Newton though, the series is going to need someone to fill in the imposing hole that Christie has left in the series, and I can see Newton very much filling it. She was such a powerhouse performer in Westworld, and Wednesday may not be as cerebral, but there’s definitely room for Newton to show off her chops.

No release date has been announced for the second season of Wednesday, but you can catch the first season now on Netflix.

Marvel Rivals Reveals Gameplay for Loki https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-rivals-reveals-gameplay-for-loki/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 09:27:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82104 The start of the month had Marvel and NetEase announcing their Marvel-based Overwatch clone called Marvel Rivals, and though we don’t have a release date yet, the content for the game has started to trickle out slowly.

Thanks to IGN, we have a gameplay reveal for the God of Mischief himself, Loki. Check this out:

Take a look at the latest featuring Loki Laufeyson, Asgard’s cunning trickster. Loki’s mystic illusions and shapeshifting power make him a devious Strategist.

Based on what we see on the reveal, Loki’s staff is going to be his primary weapon, and he’s expected to be a long range hero. His character is also given the ability to make illusions of himself, which should be handy when he needs to make a hasty escape. It also does look like he can teleport around a map.

When it comes to what I assume is Loki’s ultimate ability, he’s able to copy a hero and perform their ultimate as well. It’s pretty much Overwatch’s Echo and her ultimate.

Loki’s is just the first of several other incoming characters. We haven’t even got to the characters that the game hasn’t revealed yet. No doubt the game has several characters to bring into the game, from the Fantastic Four to the full roster of X-Men.

For now, we’re only getting bits and pieces of the game, but we should expect this to be a real moneymaker for Marvel and NetEase. No wonder they made the game free-to-play.

No release date has been set for Marvel Rivals, but fans are hoping it will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The closed alpha for the game is set to launch this May.

Meet the Cast of the Knuckles Miniseries https://www.geekfeed.com/meet-the-cast-of-the-knuckles-miniseries/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 10:02:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82100 Knuckles may not be getting his own theatrically released movie like Sonic, but he is getting a miniseries on Paramount+ later this week.

Just in, we have a new featurette showcasing the series’ star-studded cast which includes Adam Pally (Happy Endings), Scott Mescudi (X), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Stockard Channing (Grease), Cary Elwes (Stranger Things), and Rory McCann (Game of Thrones). Check this out:

Besides Idris Elba returning to voice Knuckles, we also see that Sonic has his own appearance in the series. We don’t know how large his role is going to be though, but Ben Schwartz is also expected to reprise the role for at least one episode. Tails is also expected to make an appearance as well.

With the Sonic films gearing up for the clash between Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog, it’s very likely that side characters like Knuckles and Tails won’t have such extensive arcs. That being said, I do hope that Shadow’s arc won’t just be a repeat of Knuckles’ where he’s first recruited by the villain to fight Sonic, then they eventually become friends.

Going back to Knuckles though, the series is said to run for six episodes, which should be enough for a whole arc. I’m just hoping that they don’t skimp on the CG quality and just have episodes mostly focused on the human characters. It’s a bonus if they’ll be able to drop some teases for what we can expect in the third Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Knuckles comes to Paramount+ on April 26.

A Dog and a Robot Become Best Friends in Animated Trailer for NEON’s Robot Dreams https://www.geekfeed.com/animated-trailer-for-neons-robot-dreams/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 09:48:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82096 Studio NEON has been known mostly for its dark and disturbing films, but the studio is going a different direction with their upcoming film Robot Dreams. The animated movie is set to come out this summer, and we have a new trailer to hype up the release.

Check this out:

The official description reads:

Dog lives in Manhattan and he’s tired of being alone. One day he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, until they become inseparable, to the rhythm of 80’s NYC. One summer night, DOG, with great sadness, is forced to abandon ROBOT at the beach.

Will they ever meet again?

Just from watching the trailer, you can kind of get some BoJack Horseman vibes off the movie, but the animation is clearly more dynamic and fluid. Like the trailer also suggests, early reviews for the movie have been great, and with NEON’s reputation with movies, it’s possible this could be a more adult-oriented picture.

With Disney, DreamWorks, and all the other big animated studios stepping away from 2D animation, it’s  considered pretty balls-y for Robot Dreams to go for the theatrical release. Who knows, maybe some people will be willing to give this film a shot, but so far, it does feel like the marketing is a bit on the soft side.

Maybe we’ll get to see more of this pop up on the news feed when May comes around next week. Catch Robot Dreams when it hits theaters on May 31.
