What’s fun is, Honor Among Thieves is being directed by Freaks and Geeks alum John Francis Daley, and he’s reunited with his co-stars Martin Starr and Samm Levine for a run ad for the D&D film.

Check this out:

If you haven’t checked out Freaks and Geeks, the three are the main trio of the ‘Geek’ part of the show, and in one episode, they have a campaign with ‘Freak’ Daniel Desario (James Franco) who comes up with the character of ‘Carlos the Dwarf’. Here’s the clip:

It’s kind of a bummer that Franco got cancelled, so he couldn’t come to reunite with the three for their D&D session, but I guess it’s fun enough that they got the three Geeks to come back for this short bit. Was it too hard to land a cameo from Linda Cardellini?

The official for Honor Among Thieves reads:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Watch out for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it hits theaters on March 31.

Final Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Highlights Critical Praise https://www.geekfeed.com/final-trailer-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Sat, 25 Mar 2023 14:32:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=75988 The review embargo for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves seems to have been lifted, and there’s been a lot of positive buzz surrounding Paramount’s take on the long-running tabletop franchise.

Just in, we have a final trailer for the movie that shows off all the film’s critical praise. Check this out:

There has been a lot of praise thrown at Chris Pine who seems to be the very backbone of the movie, despite just playing the role of a bard. You also have to love Michelle Rodriguez’s barbarian character who plays off really well with Pine’s party leader.

While fantasy properties like Lord of the Rings like to take the lore very seriously, it looks like the movie is going to be borrowing its tone from the actual game, with friends going on adventures, and luck deciding a lot of the outcomes. I don’t know if we’ll get a fourth-wall break with friends on a table playing dice, but I hope this is a start of a series of D&D adventure films that really flesh out the world.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Watch out for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it comes to cinemas on March 31.

The Games Begin in New Clip from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/new-clip-from-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Tue, 14 Mar 2023 11:09:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=74043 The trailers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had teased a fighting arena run by Hugh Grant, and with tickets now being available for the film, we have a clip featuring the start of the arena battle and the reveal of a displacer beast.

Check this out:

The clip basically has Grant playing the ‘Grandmaster’ of this arena, and we see that Chris Pine’s party is one of several that have been placed there to participate in the games.

The whole scene is kind of structured like a game, with the multiple other challenges besides the displacer beast. Not only do we have challenges, but the arena also provides perks, like with the chests revealing multiple weapons; but like it was revealed in the trailer, the displacer isn’t the only beast in the arena, and there are some mimics that also take the form of chests.

The film already looks like a whole lot of fun, and while I’m fine if the story isn’t the best thing, I just want the characters to feel like an authentic D&D party. Hopefully we get a set-up for more adventures in the future.

Meet the Party in New Featurette for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/new-featurette-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Thu, 09 Mar 2023 15:01:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73691 One of the core elements of a successful Dungeons & Dragons campaign is a party, and that’s exactly what Chris Pine will be leading in the upcoming D&D film, Honor Among Thieves. Just in, we have a featurette introducing us to all the characters in the main group, including their class and abilities.

Check this out:

So we have Edgin (Chris Pine) the bard, Holga (Michelle Rodriguez) the barbarian, Simon (Justice Smith) the sorcerer, Doric (Sophia Lillis) the druid, and Xenk (Rege-Jean Page) the paladin. The featurette also introduces us to Forge (Hugh Grant) the rogue, and Sofina (Daisy Head) the Red Wizard.

While the rest of the characters in the party have had their powers explained, I am curious about Edgin. We know that he’s just a bard, but seeing that he looks to be the lead of the party, I’m wondering if he has some kind of tragic backstory. Why else would Chris Pine be playing him?

The film looks like a whole lot of fun, and should be relatable to audience members who already play Dungeons & Dragons. I’m just hoping Honor Among Thieves manages to get some watchers to pick up the game after they’ve seen the film.

New Clip from Dungeons & Dragons Movie Features Some Light Necromancy https://www.geekfeed.com/dungeons-dragons-movie-features-light-necromancy/ Tue, 21 Feb 2023 00:15:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73481 Next month will see the release of the Dungeons & Dragons movie starring Chris Pine, and though it still has a few weeks to go, we have a new clip that has the team performing some ‘light necromancy.’

Check this out:

The clip basically has the party resurrecting the dead to gather some information, but since there are rules to necromancy, they could only ask five questions.

Though necromancy is considered a ‘dark art’ and is usually forbidden when it comes to fantasy worlds, it seems that the spell here is being used for laughs, and we have the party struggling to get answers without mistakenly asking the wrong questions.

The lore of Dungeons & Dragons may be serious, but as more people have been playing the game today, the tone of DND has admittedly changed, with characters usually taking on modern personalities (and humor) and being thrust into a serious fantasy world.

If anything, the movie looks to be embracing modern Dungeons & Dragons, having the characters written like a mishmash of certain players, with Pine being the reckless bard paired with Michelle Rodriguez who is just in it for the action, and Justice Smith who seems to be a newbie with magic.

The only other property I think that comes close with the tone is Amazon’s animated The Legend of Vox Machina, which is also based on an actual DND campaign; but I guess the movie is going to be more family-friendly.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit cinemas on March 31.

New Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a Campaign Come to Life https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 07:09:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73049 Shows like Stranger Things and Community have great odes to the Dungeons & Dragons culture, but we’re set to get an official movie this March starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez. As we’re getting closer to the release, Paramount has dropped a whole new trailer for the film, and it looks even more like a modern D&D campaign.

Check this out:

Though we’ve had fantasy movies before, it looks like Dungeons & Dragons will set itself apart by embracing the modern humor of players today. While there are some characters like Justice Smith’s who seem to be taking the game seriously, we have some players like Pine and Rodriguez who just seem to be having fun with all the adventure.

There has been a lot of debate on how a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation should be handled, but I think Honor Among Thieves has decided to do a mix of embracing the lore seriously while offering a taste of what it’s like to play a modern campaign.

It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Drops New Featurette https://www.geekfeed.com/dungeons-dragons-movie-drops-new-featurette/ Tue, 06 Dec 2022 11:32:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72334 Chris Pine may not be starring in a Star Trek anytime soon, but he’s teamed up with Paramount to play the bard of an unlikely band of heroes in the Dungeons & Dragons movie. Honor Among Thieves is set to come out this March, and we have a new featurette giving us a better look at this raunchy fantasy world.

Watch this:

If anything, the movie still looks like a big0budget fantasy romp, but the Dungeons & Dragons element comes in when the characters talk to each other like they’re in a modern setting. We don’t have a look at a Dungeon Master or 20-sided dice, but I think the film is going to attempt to capture what it feels like to play a modern-day campaign of D&D.

So far, Chris Pine absolutely shines in the trailers; though he is Captain Kirk in Star Trek, here he’s just a charming wildcard of a bard. The rest of his team also looks like a good bit of fun, with Rege –Jean Page’s character looking to be the ‘Lawful Good’ type who wants to take the game too seriously. Michaelle Rodriguez’s character feels like she’s just there to kick ass.

I can’t wait for the release of this film, and I’m hoping we get a new trailer soon.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to come to theaters on March 31, 2023.

Chris Pine Stars in Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/chris-pine-stars-in-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Mon, 25 Jul 2022 01:48:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70211 It will be a while before we get to see Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, but he’s jumped on from sci-fi to fantasy-adventure with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Just in, we have a new trailer, and Pine looks to be the lead of this band of fantasy adventurers.

Check out the Dungeons & Dragons movie trailer here:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

While a lot of fans thought that Pine was going to be playing the Dungeon Master of the movie, it looks like he’s pretty much part of the party—specifically, he looks to be the team’s bard. Besides that, the cast of characters looks to be colourful, and the banter between all of them feel like a bunch of friends sitting on a table playing D&D.

Stranger Things has pretty much hyped Dungeons & Dragons for a new generation, and besides the humor, the film even has that heavy metal soundtrack that would make Eddie Munson proud. I’m sure there are also some references in the game that a lot of longtime D&D players would immediately recognize, and if this movie gets anyone to try out the game, it would have done its job.

Catch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it hits theaters March 2023.

Paramount Announces Dungeons & Dragons Movie Title https://www.geekfeed.com/paramount-announces-official-title-of-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 16:12:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65024 The year 2000 had tried and failed to adapt Dungeons & Dragons for the big screen, but Paramount Pictures is going to have one more stab at the IP when it hits theaters next year. Just in, we have the official title reveal of the upcoming D&D movie.

Watch the Dungeons & Dragons movie here:

The video also came with the official description:

Our campaign begins… Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Come join our party with Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant as our journey begins in theatres on March 3, 2023.

The description doesn’t really give us a good idea of what to expect with the story, but Chris Pine has previously described the movie as Game of Thrones meets Princess Bride with a dash of Holy Grail, and a good dose of Goonies.” From that we can surmise that the film will have a lighter fantasy tone—as compared to the serious take of franchises like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.

With Dungeons & Dragons being so prevalent in pop-culture, I’m interested to see what direction the movie is going to take the IP. While I think it’s a given they stick to the established lore, it would be great if this could encourage audience members to try out the actual game for the first time.

Dungens & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2023.
