It’s only recently that we’ve been getting updates on Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes franchise, and the third Sherlock movie is set to come out sometime in 2020. We haven’t been getting any solid updates on what’s happening in the film, but Jude Law (Dr. Watson), clues us in on what kind of story to expect.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Law explains:
“We hope to propel the story forward. As always, the essence of the story is their codependency. We’re going to examine — since it’s been several years since we’ve seen them — we’re going to play up the fact that they haven’t seen each other for a long time either.”
Before Law, it was only Robert Downey Jr. who had been vocal about coming back to the franchise, but now it looks like the film has both Holmes and Watson locked in to return. I’m only curious if director Guy Ritchie is still involved. The way Hollywood is these days, directors can’t seem to finish the movie trilogies that they started.
It’s been almost a decade since the release of Game of Shadows, and a lot of people were curious on why we didn’t get a third movie sooner. No doubt a lot of people want to see Downey and Law reprise the characters onscreen. Hopefully we get some more updates as the release date draws nearer.
Sherlock Holmes 3 comes out Dec. 25, 2020.
