It’s been almost a decade since the release of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows back in 2011. Now, Warner Bros has announced that they are working on a third movie which will be coming out in 2020.
According to ComicBookMovie, the third installment in Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes franchise is aiming for a release on Dec. 25, 2020. RDJ and Jude Law are expected to return as Holmes and Watson, but there is still no news yet on whether Guy Ritchie will be back to direct. We do know however that the movie will be working on a script from Chris Brancato (Hannibal).
With a lot of people expecting RDJ to end his career as Iron Man with the release of Avengers 4, it’s the perfect time for Downey to finish this version of Holmes which he started in 2009. Before SH3, however, Downey has committed to playing the lead in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.
Both Sherlock Holmes movies saw great success in the box office, and a lot of fans have been hopeful to seeing a proper end to the franchise. Downey himself has expressed his interest to return as the character; let’s just hope Guy Ritchie will be back in the director’s chair for this one.
Sherlock Holmes 3 comes out Dec. 25, 2020.
