Carrie Fisher’s General Leia should have had the spotlight in Star Wars: Episode IX. However with Fisher’s death, many still wonder who could fill in the gap for a returning legacy character. Could it be Lando Calrissian? During an appearance at MegaCon, original actor Billy Dee Williams hints at a possible return to the Star Wars franchise.

As per CBR, Williams just revealed that he was undergoing training three times a week and has a whole new diet. This is interesting since Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were also asked to get themselves in shape when they were asked to return to Star Wars back in 2015.

A lot of people have been wondering why we haven’t seen Lando in the sequel trilogy at all. Rumor has it that Lucasfilm and Williams couldn’t come to an agreement on how Lando was to appear. But it’s high time that the old smoothie came back to the big screen. Han died in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Luke sacrificed himself in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Carrie is no longer around to play Leia. Besides, there’s been a reignited interest in Lando thanks to Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Of course, these are all just speculation for now, but at 81-years-old, why else would Williams want to undergo all that physical training? Maybe it’s for personal reasons, but all the fans are hopeful that this means a return for Old Man Lando.

Star Wars Episode IX hits cinemas Dec. 20, 2019.
