James Mangold was the man behind the genre-defying Logan. Now it looks like he’s taking a trip to a galaxy far far away. Lucasfilm has just tapped Mangold direct a Star Wars spinoff film based on intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mangold has been asked to write and helm the film focused on everyone’s favorite Mandalorian. Lucasfilm hasn’t released details about the plot, but the film could either be a follow-up to Solo: A Star Wars Story or a chronicle of Boba’s life after his escape from the Sarlacc Pit (which is considered canon).

Fingers crossed that Temuera Morrison would return as the face of Boba Fett. Then again, if the story is going to be about a young Boba, I wouldn’t mind if they recast him. You think Danel Logan will still be able to pull it off?

Originally, rumor had it that Josh Trank was directing Lucasfilm’s Boba Fett spinoff. After the bomb that was 2015’s Fantastic Four, though, it seems that Lucasfilm had promptly fired him and put the project on hold. Two anthology films later, and it looks like Boba is the one getting the spotlight soon.

I’m sure that a lot of fans would be angry that there still isn’t an announcement on the Kenobi spinoff movie, but Obi-Wan’s story has already been told. I’d want to see how they could add a little more meat to Boba Fett’s character arc.

No release date has been set for the Boba Fett spinoff film.
