Shazam may not be the most popular superhero, but the first film managed to nab a “cameo” from Superman from the neck down. With the sequel underway, word has it that another big DC icon will be making an appearance in the film.
As per The Illuminerdi, the Daughter of Zeus, Diana of Themyscira a.k.a. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will be appearing in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. We don’t have any specifics about the WW cameo, but hopefully we actually get to see Gadot’s face rather than just Diana from the neck down.
While some have been waiting for Henry Cavill’s Superman to actually show his face in the sequel, an appearance from Diana make complete sense when it comes to the Shazam! lore. With Diana’s world being very closely tied to Greek gods and goddesses, it’s likely she would find herself running into the Shazam family which also deal with that kind of mythology-this sequel featuring the so-called daughters of Atlas being played by Helen Mirren, Rachel Zegler, and Lucy Liu.
The fate of the DCEU may still be uncertain, but Shazam! kind of lives in a world where things went smoothly with Justice League. Admittedly, Billy Batson is kind of the “Ant-Man” of the DCEU, with his small-time status and comedic theme; but no doubt DC will find a way to make Billy and his found family shine; and it would be fun to see him actually getting mentored by more experienced heroes in the canon.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set for a release on June 2, 2023.
