The animated movie is set to come out this summer, and we have a new trailer to hype up the release.

Check this out:

The official description reads:

Dog lives in Manhattan and he’s tired of being alone. One day he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, until they become inseparable, to the rhythm of 80’s NYC. One summer night, DOG, with great sadness, is forced to abandon ROBOT at the beach.

Will they ever meet again?

Just from watching the trailer, you can kind of get some BoJack Horseman vibes off the movie, but the animation is clearly more dynamic and fluid. Like the trailer also suggests, early reviews for the movie have been great, and with NEON’s reputation with movies, it’s possible this could be a more adult-oriented picture.

With Disney, DreamWorks, and all the other big animated studios stepping away from 2D animation, it’s  considered pretty balls-y for Robot Dreams to go for the theatrical release. Who knows, maybe some people will be willing to give this film a shot, but so far, it does feel like the marketing is a bit on the soft side.

Maybe we’ll get to see more of this pop up on the news feed when May comes around next week. Catch Robot Dreams when it hits theaters on May 31.

The Claws Come Out in Full Trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine https://www.geekfeed.com/full-trailer-for-deadpool-wolverine-released/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 10:30:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82066 Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was only teased in the first preview for Deadpool & Wolverine, but now we get to see him back at it with the latest trailer for the movie.

Check the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine out:

Though we know that Wade gets hired by the TVA to be ‘Marvel Jesus’, we also get a bit of background on this version of Logan. It does look like this Wolverine is the reason his world is dead and him teaming up with Deadpool will be his redemption arc.

Besides a lot of Logan, we also get a look at Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), who looks to be the main villain of the series. In the comics, Nova is Professor X’s ‘dark twin’ who Xavier tried to kill while they were in the womb together—no, seriously.

It looks like Nova is the one who runs this 20th Century Fox Marvel wasteland, and we get to see some discarded characters from early X-Men films including Lady Deathstrike (X-Men 2), Azazel (X-Men: First Class), and Callisto (X-Men: The Last Stand). Even when Nova is instroduced, we see her getting off of what some assume is Charles Xavier’s wheelchair.

Of course, we should also expect some references to non-Fox properties in Deadpool &  Wolverine. We get to see Alioth, the cloud monster at the end of time from Loki; and Nova’s base of operations looks to be the dead body of Giant/Ant-Man—something right out of Old Man Logan.

So far, a very obscure cameo-fest looks to be happening, but I am hoping that director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have a meaningful story in mind for Deadpool’s jump into the MCU. I’m just honestly hoping this doesn’t mean 10 more years of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine because I would love for someone else to finally take on the role.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to come into theaters on July 26.

The Adult Scooby-Doo Series Returns with Trailer for Velma Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/scooby-doo-series-returns-with-velma-season-2/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 10:06:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82053 Scooby-Doo is a property that’s been revamped time and again, but Max had decided to put a fun spin on Mystery Inc. with the adult-oriented Velma starring Mindy Kaling. The show is now going into its second season, and we have a trailer showcasing some more murder/mystery comedy and some traditional love triangle romance.

Check this out:

The official synopsis for the season reads:

“When an even spookier mystery grips Crystal Cove, Velma must find a way to balance her detective work with the demands of her newfound popularity before it’s too late. Meanwhile, her faithful friends Daphne, Norville, and Fred are powerless to help thanks to their own personal battles and worse… Detention.”

Unlike previous takes on Scooby, Velma decides to go all in with the craziness, even giving Velma herself some more character besides being the ‘smart one’ of the gang. Besides her, each of the other Mystery Inc. members have been given more colourful (albeit selfish) personalities.

Admittedly, the show was widely reviled by the online community when it first came out, but if Star Wars or any other huge fandom has taught us anything, it’s that the online vitriol doesn’t really reflect the actual number or views—just like how critical praise doesn’t really save a series that no one watches (sorry Netflix’s GLOW).

Either way, I’m rooting for Velma to do what it set out to do. It essentially feels like the cartoon Harley Quinn series without any of the familiar comic book characters. Maybe you can even spin it as a wackier version of Riverdale.

Velma Season 2 returns to Max on April 25.

Netflix Drops Final Trailer for Sweet Tooth https://www.geekfeed.com/netflix-drops-final-trailer-for-sweet-tooth/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 09:59:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82043 Robert Downey Jr. may not have been able to kick off a kid-friendly franchise with Dolittle, but he was able to go the family-friendly adventure route with his series Sweet Tooth.

The series is now gearing up for the release of the final season, and we have a new teaser. Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis for the third season (as per Bloody Disgusting):

“Having defeated General Abbot in the battle at Pubba’s Cabin, Gus (Christian Convery), Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), Becky (Stefania LaVie Owen), and Wendy (Naledi Murray) embark on a journey to Alaska in search of Gus’s mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz), who has been working to uncover the mysterious origins of the deadly Sick. Along the way, they are joined by Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who may have his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus. Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), her daughter Rosie (Kelly Marie Tran), and the ferocious Wolf Boys, who seek to restart human birth and view Gus as the solution to their plans.

“As they navigate through perilous terrain, Gus and his group of friends find refuge at the Outpost in Alaska, where they meet a new ensemble of characters including Siana (Cara Gee) and her hybrid daughter Nuka (Ayazhan Dalabayeva). With the clock to find answers running out, alliances are tested and destinies intertwine, all leading to a thrilling climax that will determine the fate of humanity and hybrids.”

3 Body Problem fans will immediately ecorgnize Rosaline Chao who will be playing a new threat for Gus and friends; add on top of that Kelly Marie Tran, who is best known for playing Rose in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Lucasfilm may have sidelined her in The Rise of Skywalker, but I’m honestly just happy to see Tran acting in something else.

Admittedly Sweet Tooth wasn’t able to get the same kind of mass appeal as Stranger Things or Squid Game, but the show does look fantastic, and it does have very interesting lore with the hybrids and the Sick.

I guess a lot of people were just weary when this show launched since it did show a global pandemic, and this released around the time COVID was still pretty much a threat.

Hopefully Sweet Tooth manages to end with a bang.

The final season of Sweet Tooth comes to Netflix on June 6.

Deborah and Ava Find Each Other Again in Trailer for Hacks Season 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/deborah-and-ava-in-trailer-for-hacks-season-3/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 16:17:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81996 The second season of HBO’s Hacks ended with Deborah firing Ava to allow her to find her own voice out of her shadow, and while it does seem like it does end on a high note, we should expect things not to be as rosy as they turn out to be.

The third season is set to come back this May, and we have our first trailer. Check this out:

The synopsis for the season reads:

“A year after parting, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is riding high off the success of her standup special while Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles.”

Though Deborah was kind of a washed out comic when we first meet her in Hacks, we spend the second season with her trying to get into new material thanks to the pushing of Ava.

The series isn’t really shy about how imperfect the relationship of the two is. While Ava does have fierce appreciation for Deborah’s trailblazing and natural talent, she has no qualms about calling out how old-fashioned and not politically correct her material could be.

On the other hand, Deborah has a lot to teach Ava, but she can get so incredibly petty; and top that off with her endless amount of money and she can be downright cruel to the underdog that is Ava.

Personally, I’m just so happy to see the show back. The characters and drama is fantastic, and while I thought Season 2 could have been the perfect sendoff, I’m wondering where we could see the girls again in Season 3.

Hacks returns to Max on May 2.

Look Back: Watch Trailer for Next Anime Movie from Chainsaw Man Creator https://www.geekfeed.com/look-back-watch-trailer-for-next-anime-movie/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 16:15:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81992 Mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto is best known by anime fans as the creator of Chainsaw Man, but he also has a fantastic one-shot manga called Look Back which is a slice-of-life story about two young girls who want to become manga artists.

As it turns out, Look Back is going to be getting the anime movie treatment, and we just got a new trailer. Check this out:

Here’s the official description translated [and edited]:

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s youth story has been made into an animated movie!

Fujino is a fourth-year elementary school student who serializes four-panel comics in her school’s newspaper. She received rave reviews from her classmates, but one day, her teacher told her that he wanted to post four frames of Kyomoto, a classmate who was refusing to go to school.

What connects the two girls is a single-minded love for manga. But one day, something happens that shatters everything… An amazing coming-of-age story that will pierce your heart.

Unlike Chainsaw Man which goes for several chapters, Look Back is one self-contained story. And though it doesn’t have a lot of fantastical battles and monsters, it does have a very artsy take on the character of the ‘obsessed artist.’

When you read it, you can’t help but think this is also a look into Fujimoto’s mindset when he was training himself to be a mangaka; and top that off with the frustation that one feels when they see someone who is naturally talented in the craft.

By the looks of the trailer, we could be seeing some kind of change in the original story of the manga—which can admittedly get kind of tragic. Either way, I don’t expect it to be any less emotional.

Look Back will release in theaters on June 28.

T・P BON Trailer: Check Out Time Travelling Adventure Anime from the Creators of Doraemon https://www.geekfeed.com/t%e3%83%bbp-bon-trailer-time-travelling-adventure/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 16:08:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81984 The robot cat Doraemon is no doubt a Japanese icon, but the creator duo of Fujio Fujio (Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko) had other IP and characters they worked on. One such property is Time Patrol Bon (T・P BON ), and though it got an OVA back in the 80s, Netflix and Studio Bones have teamed up to do a reboot anime.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description for T・P BON:

An ordinary junior high school student encounters the pages of history! A manga by Fujiko F. Fujio gets a new anime series adaptation for the first time in 30 years.

Though on the surface it does look like T・P BON is going to be a kid-friendly series, it does look like the show is going to deal with more mature themes—just look at all the blood and violence we’re getting in the trailer. There’s even a shot of someone about to shoot themselves in the head.

If anything, rebooting old classic anime/manga has been kind of a rising trend recently. Hits like Urusei Yatsura and Ruruouni Kenshin have been getting the modern anime makeover, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a property from the creators of one of the most infuential characters in Japan pop-culture is going to get the same treatment.

Hopefully we get to see more of it soon since May is just around the corner.

T・P BON is set to premiere on Netflix on May 2, and the second season will premiere on July 17.

More Avatar: The Last Airbender Characters Come to Fortnite https://www.geekfeed.com/avatar-the-last-airbender-come-to-fortnite/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 11:30:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81908 Avatar: The Last Airbender may still not have AAA game, but fans may have just gotten the next best thing thanks to Fortnite.

After the release of Korra from The Legend of Korra, the game has brought in classic characters from the original Airbender series in the form of Katara, Toph, and Zuko. Check this out:

Though these three characters are now available, the game is also expected to make Aang himself a playable character, and players will also be able to use airbending with him. For now, the game has the other three elements, Fire, Water, and Earth, available as Mythic weapons.

One character that a lot of fans are looking for though, is Sokka. Sokka isn’t really a bender, but his weapons are still extra props that come with the Airbender characters. Hopefully they manage to bring him into the game soon so players can have a completed Team Avatar.

With Avatar: The Last Airbender recently blowing up on Netflix, you would think that Fortnite would have decided to release this skins earlier. If anything, it still manages to catch up to the hype of the show, and these should keep fans interested in the world of Airbender for a little while longer as they wait for the next season or an update on the movie from Avatar Studios.

Katara, Zuko, and Toph are now available on the Fortnite shop. Fortnite is now playable for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S,PC, PlayStation 4|5, and mobile.

Mia Goth is a Star in Trailer for MaXXXine https://www.geekfeed.com/mia-goth-is-a-star-in-trailer-for-maxxxine/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 11:11:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81877 The X horror franchise from Ti West is one of the most unique things to come out of A24, and Mia Goth is ready to close up a trilogy with the upcoming third movie MaXXXine.

The film is set to come out this July, and we have a new star-studded trailer. Check this out:

Besides Mia Goth who is returning to play the part of Maxine, we also have new cast members including Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, and Bobby Cannavale. A lot of fans are also excited to see Halsey take on a supporting actress role in live-action this time.

Just in case you’re not updated on the X timeline, the first movie had Maxine survive a classic horror setting against an aged woman named Pearl (who was also played by Goth). The sequel, Pearl, followed the story of the X antagonist and mirrored how she was also obsessed with her own beauty and wanted a life outside of her farm—which we know she never got.

Now with MaXXXine, we get to flash forward once again to see where Maxine is left after the events of X, and after knowing what we saw in Pearl, it’s possible that Maxine herself could also fall into the same murder-fuelled rabbit hole in her quest for fame.

The movies have been critical darlings so far, and everyone is hoping that MaXXXine will manage to stick the landing.

MaXXXine is set to hit theatres on July 5.

A Loli Vampire is Loose in New Trailer for Abigail https://www.geekfeed.com/loli-vampire-is-loose-in-new-trailer-for-abigail/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 11:04:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81856 M3GAN had given audiences a new kind of movie monster in the form of a tiny robot girl, and now they’re taking that image and turning it into an unkillable vampire in the upcoming film Abigail.

The movie is set to come out next week, and we have a new trailer showcasing Universal’s upcoming mini-monster. Check this out:

Children can be such monsters.

After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.

It’s worth noting that the movie is being directed by Radio Silence—a team of two directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet—the same people behind Ready or Not and the last two Scream films. The film also has a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Dan Stevens, and the late Euphoria star Angus Cloud.

Not to mention the titular Abigail is also played by Alisha Weir, who was the star of Netflix’s recent musical Matilda reboot.

If you’ve seen Ready or Not or any of the last scream films, you’ll know that Radio Silence has a penchant for bringing together horror and comedy. While we should expect some actual frights, you can get caught off-guard whenever somebody says something hilarious. Abigail should be no exception to their signature style.

Abigail is set to hit theatres on April 19.

Fly Me to The Moon: Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum Must Sell the Moon Landing in New Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/fly-me-to-the-moon-johansson-and-tatum/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 10:52:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81869 There have been several biopics and documentaries about the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, but there have also been a number of films all about how the US was actually trying to fake it just in case they failed. Now Love, Simon director Greg Berlanti is going to have his own take on the historic event with the star power of Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson.

Check out the first trailer for Fly Me to the Moon:

Here’s the official description:

Starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, FLY ME TO THE MOON is a sharp, stylish comedy-drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing. Brought in to fix NASA’s public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones (Johansson) wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’s (Tatum) already difficult task. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins…

Culturally, there are several rumors about how the Moon Landing was pulled off, so it’s no mystery that there are multiple films tackling what and what could’ve happened. One infamous rumor is that they got Stanley Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey) to fake the Moon Landing, and that’s why Johansson’s character mentions him in the trailer.

It’s not clear how much of this is actually true to life, but I’m game for a silly story about the NASA marketing team who were tasked with getting the people to back a mission to go to the moon during the height of the Space Race.

Fly Me to the Moon lands in theaters on July 12.

Official Story Trailer Dropped for Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws https://www.geekfeed.com/official-story-trailer-for-star-wars-outlaws/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 10:56:45 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81900 Ubisoft is best known for making these massive-scale Assassin’s Creed games, and now they’re taking those resources and bringing to life a world set in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Outlaws is set to come out later this year, and we have our first official story trailer since the announcement back in June 2023. Check this out:

The official description for the game reads:

Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars™ game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.

Though most Star Wars games concern the fight between the Empire and the Rebellion, Star Wars Outlaws is unique in that we get to look at the crime syndicates, who are every bit just as ferocious and dangerous. But just like with Han Solo, we should always expect some scoundrels to be leaning closer to a specific side.

Based on what’s revealed in the trailer, we know that this is going to be taking place between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (hence Han in Carbonite), and I’m guessing we could be seeing more cameos down the line besides Han Solo and Jabba.

Are people not sick of Boba Fett yet? How about someone from The Mandalorian like Din Djarin or Bill Burr?

Star Wars Outlaws launches on Aug. 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

It’s Mad Love in First Teaser for Joker: Folie a Deux https://www.geekfeed.com/first-teaser-for-joker-folie-a-deux-released/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 10:51:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81885 It’s been 5 years since the release of Joker in 2019, and now Todd Phillips is ready to bring us back to the world of his Gotham City in the upcoming film Joker: Folie a Deux. Just in, we got a new teaser, and Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga absolutely stun.

Check this out:

No official synopsis came with the video, but it does come with the tagline, “He’s not alone anymore,” referring to Joker finally finding a literal partner-in-crime in the form of Harley Quinn.

While the story of Harley as a psychologist who falls in love with her patient is pretty solid in her mythology, Folie a Deux looks to shake things up by having her be a fellow patient in Arkham. What’s more, it does seem that they’re ditching the abusive boyfriend angle for the Joker and having Harley and Joker be equals at this point.

Already everyone has been raving about all the shots that have been showcased in the trailer. Black Adam, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may all look like generic superhero flicks, but Folie a Deux manages to stand out with the cinematic shots and very bold colors.

Not to mention, it’s also been said that the movie is supposed to be a ‘jukebox musical’ featuring original spins on popular songs, and it looks like What the World Needs Now is Love from Burt Bacharach is going to be one of the central themes—just like how Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life was central to the first movie.

Joker: Folie a Deux is set to come to cinemas on Oct. 04.

Star Wars: Glup Shittos Return in New Trailer for Tales of the Empire https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-tales-of-the-empire/ Mon, 08 Apr 2024 10:20:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81818 Disney+ had delivered us an anthology series with Tales of the Jedi, but now they’re ready to flip the script with Tales of the Empire. The series is expected to premiere on Star Wars Day May 4th later this year, and we have our first trailer.

Check this out:

The series is said to have six different shorts, all focusing on different characters around the time of the Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy.

Barriss Offee was a fan-favorite character from the Prequels whose fate was left uncertain after the end of The Clone Wars, and we’re going to see where her story goes during the rise of the Empire.

Morgan Elsbeth, who was also a main player in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka also gets her backstory fleshed out with Thrawn and a clash with Grievous and the Night Sisters.

With the upcoming series The Acolyte said to be focusing on the blind side of the Jedi, it’s interesting that the Tales series would choose to focus on the villains this time. I don’t expect to be an all-out endorsement of the Dark Side by Disney or Lucasfilm, but what fun is fiction when it can only focus on heroes?

I’m just hoping we get more connections to the Sequel Trilogy moving forward, but it’s possible that the era is still too fragile to touch with Lucasfilm still trying to figure out a good re-entry point.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire comes to Disney+ on May 4. Tales of the Jedi is now streaming.

Ilana Glazer Stars in Modern Pregnancy Comedy in Trailer for Babes https://www.geekfeed.com/modern-pregnancy-comedy-in-trailer-for-babes/ Mon, 08 Apr 2024 10:11:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81814 Broad City star Ilana Glazer may have went the horror pregnancy route with her 2021 film False Positive, but she’s now ready to go back to her comedy roots with the upcoming film Babes. Just in, we have a new trailer, and it features Glazer doing what she does best—doing drugs and getting laid.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

BABES follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), having grown up together in NYC, now firmly in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge. BABES delves into the complexities of female friendship with a blend of laughter, tears, and labor pains.

As a Broad City fan, it is kind of disappointing to see Glazer not be alongside her co-star Abbi Jacobson, but she still has fantastic chemistry with Michelle Buteau. Besides that, it does look like we should expect all the kinds of irresponsibility that comes with a comedy brand that Glazer is known for.

Probably the last modern pregnancy comedy was Baby Mama starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler which came out back in 2008, but seeing as to how much we know about pregnancy and adulthood has changed over the decade, Babes should have something new and interesting to say about Millenials who are expecting.

Babes is set to come to cinemas on May 17.

Cuckoo Trailer: Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens Star in What Looks to be a Modern Remake of The Shining https://www.geekfeed.com/cuckoo-trailer-modern-remake-of-the-shining/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 08:46:23 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81797 Sydney Sweeney isn’t the only Euphoria star that gets to lead a horror movie this year. Just in, Neon has dropped their first trailer for Cuckoo, and it stars none other than Hunter Schafer. Check it out:

The movie also stars Dan Stevens (Legion) and Jessica Henwick (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery). Here’s the official description:

Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

Just from the trailer alone, you can already feel that there is a kind of vibe that’s akin to the classic horror film The Shining, with the lead having to work in a solitary hotel where weird things just start to happen.

Besides Schafer being a magnetic star on her own right, the film has also cast Dan Stevens who just seems to be comfortable playing all kinds of kooky characters.

We don’t know exactly what to expect with Cuckoo besides what the title suggests—everything is just going to be one crazy ride.

Cuckoo is set to hit theaters on May 3.

Oldboy Director and RDJ Team-Up for Espionage Series The Sympathizer https://www.geekfeed.com/old-boy-director-and-rdj-release-the-sympathizer/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 07:36:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81747 Robert Downey Jr. may have stumbled a bit after the release of Avengers: Endgame, but after an Oscar win with Oppenheimer, HBO is ready to release his collaboration with Oldboy director Park Chan-wook titled The Sympathizer.

The series is set to premiere later this month, and we have a new trailer featuring star Hoa Xuande and RDJ in what looks to be several goofy costumes a la The Nutty Professor. Check this out:

The series is actually based on a book of the same name from Vietnamese-American professor Viet Thanh Nguyen. The novel was released in 2015 and had won the Pulitzer in 2016. There was also a sequel book written called The Committed, and it was published around March 2021.

So far, the series looks fantastic—which you can always expect from a network like HBO. It’s too early to know if Xuande has the chops to lead a series, but this will definitely be a huge opportunity for him. As for RDJ, we already know he can play both comedic and serious, and hopefully he gets to play around with that when the show comes out.

Here’s the official description for The Sympathizer:

Near the end of the Vietnam War, a plant who was embedded in the South Vietnam army flees to the United States and takes up residence in a refugee community, where he continues to secretly spy and report back to the Viet Cong.

The Sympathizer is a limited series and will premiere on Max this April 14.

Unfrosted: Seinfeld Directs Star-Studded Movie about the Creation of the Pop-Tart https://www.geekfeed.com/seinfeld-directs-star-studded-movie/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 06:48:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81743 Jerry Seinfeld may not have the same hold on pop-culture that he had back in the 90s, but he’s going to be coming back with a movie that’s filled to the brim with stars, on a topic that Seinfeld also has an infamous bit about—the Pop-Tart.

Here’s the trailer for the Seinfeld-directed Unfrosted:

Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut.

Just in case you didn’t know about the connection between Seinfeld and Pop-Tarts, there is a video breakdown of him talking to The New York Times about how he wrote his bit about the breakfast food. Watch this:

Besides Seinfeld himself, the movie is chock full of stars including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Bill Burr, Fred Armisen, Cedric the Entertainer, Hugh Grant, and more. It’s unclear how much of this movie is going to be based on real life, but it’s funny to think of rivaling cereal companies and several different people representing cereal mascots like Snap, Crackle, and Pop as well as Tony the Tiger.

Admittedly, Seinfeld is not best known for his directing projects, but he is known to be a great writer; and it should show off in Unfrosted when it finally comes to Netflix in a few months. I’m just hoping Larry David shows up one way or another.

Delicious in Dungeon Gives Look at Cour 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/delicious-in-dungeon-gives-look-at-cour-2/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 11:15:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81734 Anime had recently been filled with isekai storylines with IPs like Mushoki Tensei and KoNoSuBa, but there has been a recent rise in some straight up fantasy like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. One other property that’s been getting some buzz is Delicious in Dungeon or Dungeon Meshi, and with the anime set to close its most recent arc, we have a new trailer that will give us a look at what’s been dubbed as ‘Cour 2’.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description translated:

Laios is an adventurer who rescued his sister Falin from the Red Dragon. Suddenly, they are attacked by the “mad magician” who is the master of the labyrinth. The celebration of reopening was short-lived, but his sister disappeared once again in the depths of the dungeon…

The group that resuscitated her sister despite violating taboos was condemned. In a critical situation where he is on the verge of losing his friends, Raios makes a decision. “I will defeat the “Frenzy Magician” and rescue Farin without fail!”

Cockatrice, harpy, and griffin! Aim to pass through the dungeon while eating the attacking monsters, adventurer!

Besides the trailer, Studio Trigger has also dropped a new key visual that features all the new incoming characters. Check this out:

Though the first cour of the anime had only 13 episodes, it’s said that Dungeon Meshi is expected to run for a total of 24. With the first season covering several arcs from the original manga, I’m just crossing my fingers that they’ll be able to adapt the whole story for the anime.

Manga-readers have been warning anime fans online though. The first parts of the show may have seemed friendly enough, but ever since the clash with the Red Dragon, we should expect things to take a darker turn moving forward.

The second cour of Delicious in Dungeon starts streaming this week.

Marvel Rivals: Watch Official Announce of Marvel’s Overwatch Clone https://www.geekfeed.com/marvel-rivals-marvels-overwatch-clone/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 11:08:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81721 Overwatch had established the gold standard for hero shooters (sorry, Team Fortress 2), and there have been several ‘clones’ over the years including Paladins and Valorant. Now Marvel and NetEase have teamed up to give us their own hero shooter, but this time with highly recognizable Marvel heroes and villains.

Check out the official reveal for Marvel Rivals:

Introducing Marvel Rivals, the premier Super Hero Team-based PVP Shooter!

Assemble your favorite Marvel characters and engage in 6v6 battles, utilizing brand-new Team-Up Skills in destructible locations from across the Marvel Multiverse!

The Closed Alpha test is coming this May!

The announce doesn’t really go into heavy details, but the game has been confirmed to be free-to-play, and we are expected to see more heroes added to the roster as time goes by. Though there is already an established roster of heroes and villains which include Iron Man, Hulk, Loki, and Magik, it’s also been confirmed that we’re also going to get Storm, Star-Lord, Mantis, Punisher, Magneto, and Scarlet Witch down the line.

Though you don’t need a story to enjoy a hero shooter game, NetEase does give us a backdrop for Rivals and how these heroes have found themselves tangling with each other:

Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown. Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

With Overwatch 2 currently getting bashed by the online community, a lot have been teasing that Rivals would be the game that would ‘murder’ OW2, but we’ll just have to wait and see. NetEase may be considered Blizzard’s rival, but they have been criticized for having too many microtransactions within their games. Even Overwatch 2 has already started pivoting their model to have all heroes come for free.

No official release date has been announced for Marvel Rivals, but the Closed Alpha is set to launch this May.
