Months ago there was a rumor that Robert Pattinson was being considered as the young Bruce Wayne for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and though we didn’t get any official updates since then, we now have confirmation that Pattinson is indeed the top choice to be the next Batman.
According to Variety, Pattinson is already in final talks to play the new Dark Knight. Sources also told Hollywood Life the only other actor being considered was Nicholas Hoult, but this movie is “95% Robert’s film.” The source continues, “Robert is most likely going to get the role of ‘Batman’… WB [Warner Bros.] wants to see the fan reaction and online reaction to the news first.”
As for fan reaction, a lot of fans have admittedly learned their lesson from complaining about Heath Ledger and Ben Affleck’s casting. While those choices were initially met with scorn, everything eventually paid off with Ledger and Affleck going down as one of the most iconic portrayals of the characters.
Funnily enough, a lot of people thought Jared Leto was perfect casting for the Joker, and we all know how that turned out.
For now, a lot of people are positive about Pattinson’s casting. Sure there are still some fans who won’t let Twilight go, but based on experience, actors always have a chance to surprise us when it comes to the Batman franchise. I’m just hoping Jeremy Irons comes back as Alfred.
