The Percy Jackson movie franchise basically fizzled out with the Sea of Monsters film, but with Disney acquiring Fox, a reboot of the series is now in the works for Disney+. While we did get a teaser late last year, series creator Rick Riordan offers an update on the upcoming show.

On his official website, Riordan writes:

We have a couple of important meetings this coming week with the top brass at the studio for the Percy Jackson TV show, so keep your fingers crossed. Everyone who has read the pilot script loves it, but there will be a few additional tweaks we need to make before we send it off to its next stop: the top execs at Disney+.

While the Millenials had Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and the Olympians was considered to be the big fantasy franchise for Gen Z. In lieu of Hogwarts, they had Camp Half-Blood and instead of dark wizards, they Percy fought off mythical monsters and gods.

Despite bringing in Chris Columbus for the first Percy Jackson film, it seems that the studio’s preference to appeal to the young adult audience kind of lost the kid-friendly appeal that the books had.  Hopefully with this reboot, Riordan can bring something that can be enjoyed by fans of the original books as well as a new generation of kids who have never even heard of Percy Jackson.

As of now, no release date has been set for the Percy Jackson series on Disney+.
