Pixar Announces Onward Starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt

Though some may think that Pixar has fallen into some kind of rut because of all the sequels and spinoffs they’re developing, the studio still manages to pump out some great original films. Coco was a smash hit last year, and now we know what’s next in store for Pixar after Toy Story 4.

Here’s the announcement:

Interestingly enough, the setting of the film sounds very close to Netflix’s Bright, in a sense that they’re taking common fantasy characters and bringing them into the modern age. It’s said that Onward will take place in a world where elves, trolls, other magical creatures exist, but instead of magic, the world has replaces everything with technology. The story is said to focus on two brothers (presumably Holland and Pratt) as they attempt to search for whatever magic is left in the world.

Monsters University’s Dan Scanlon is set to helm the movie, and he had this to say about the film in a press release:

“At Pixar, we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth… This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

I’ll admit, Bright had a very amazing setting but ended up being a terrible movie. Hopefully with Pixar now producing the story, we get to see the world done right this time around. I have complete faith in the studio when it comes to this film, and I already love their choice of cast members.

Hopefully we get a good look at the characters sometime next year.

Onward is set to release in theaters March 6, 2020.
