There is no denying John Carpenter’s status as a film icon. From Halloween to The Thing, his movies are well received and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone – horror fan or otherwise.

Unfortunately, it has been a couple of years since the director has taken the leads on a full feature. The Ward, a psychological horror movie starring Amber Heard and Mamie Gummer, came out almost a decade ago in 2010. His fans, unsurprisingly, are already itching to find out what the director has in store for them. It seems like he would not disappoint.

In a recent interview as reported by Comicbook.com, Carpenter revealed that he is excited to be working on the upcoming Halloween movie. He explains that, while he did direct the original movie, he hasn’t been heavily involved with the subsequent sequels. It didn’t take much to convince him. Especially since Jason Blum, arguably Hollywood’s biggest horror producer, is the person doing the convincing:

“Well, they asked me. You know, the rights went back to Miramax and Malek Akkad talked to me and he wanted me to do something. And then Jason Blum, who’s the biggest horror producer in Hollywood, talked to me. He was going to produce it. They were willing to pay me, which is always a good thing, so I said yes”

In the same sit-down, Carpenter explains that he hasn’t seen all iterations of his famous Halloween. After all, following the original, there have been nine other movies in the franchise. While he isn’t directing the upcoming movie, Carpenter is very much willing to guide the new production. He likes the director and he wants this movie to be the best that it can possibly be:

“I talked about the Halloweens for a long time, the sequels — I haven’t even seen all of them,” Carpenter confessed. “I don’t even know what really was there — but finally it occurred to me: Well if I’m just flapping my gums here, talking about it, why don’t I try to make it as good as I can? I could offer advice. I could talk to the director. I like the director very much. I like the script. So, you know, stop throwing rocks from the sidelines and get in there and try to do something positive”

The latest iteration of Halloween is due to be released in a couple of months. As the premiere date approaches, more details about the movie have been revealed. According to  Danny McBride, writer of the upcoming film, this version of the classic franchise would begin after the first movie.

“We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one. It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way.” explains McBride in an interview with Yahoo!.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who shot into stardom after Halloween, has signed on to the upcoming feature. Halloween is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018.
