Dreamworks is set to wrap up the How to Train Your Dragon franchise next year, and good news, the movie has actually been bumped up a month early.
As per the Wrap, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has moved from its March 2019 release date to Feb. 22, 2019; that puts the movie’s release in the same month as X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The LEGO Movie 2. Should it have come out in March, it would have been competing with the releases of Shazam! as well as the Hellboy reboot.
With the Hidden World, Dreamworks promises to conclude the epic franchise that they kickstared way back in 2010. Though Disney may be dominating the animation box office, Dreamworks manages to stand out with franchises like HTTYD.
What I think is amazing about How to Train Your Dragon is that Hiccup actually matures as a character along with the audience. The first movie could have come out in high school, and the series would end when you’re coming out of college. Dreamworks rarely manages to capture the same kind of magic they did with How to Train Your Dragon as compared to franchises like The Croods and Trolls.
What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic adventure spanning their lives. Welcome to the most astonishing chapter of one of the most beloved animated franchises in film history: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World hits theaters Feb. 22, 2019.
