Though the DCEU had been floundering with most of their releases, it was without a doubt that Wonder Woman was a success, and a lot of fans were hoping that the movie would get some recognition at the Oscars. Well, that didn’t happen, pissing off a lot of people on the internet, but Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot doesn’t seem to mind.

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Hadot was asked about Wonder Woman getting snubbed, to which she said:

“I was very moved and touched by the feedback of all the people that were disappointed that ‘Wonder Woman’ wasn’t nominated, but we certainly never did the movie for that. I think that you can’t have it all. We’ve done this movie and it was received in such an amazing, wonderful way, and we want to stay humble and grateful, and we’re going to have another movie, so who knows? Maybe the next one!”

Despite not getting an Oscar, Wonder Woman was without a doubt an “important” movie to many fans. Not only did it open doors for women in the entertainment industry, but it also provided little girls with a superhero role model they could truly identify with.

Personally, I’ve stopped depending on the Academy Awards to tell me what a good movie is. It seems that there’s a checklist involved when it comes to applying for these Oscars—hence the term: Oscar-bait. I mean, Boss Baby is an Oscar-nominated movie, and a lot of people agree it was terrible!

I’m really happy with Gadot’s reaction to the snub. After all, she does have a point; they never made the movie for that. I’m hopeful that the sequel to Wonder Woman would be great, but I’m not holding my breath for the Academy to acknowledge anything.

Wonder Woman 2 comes out Nov.1, 2019.
