Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers might be the star of Captain Marvel, but somehow Goose manages to steal the spotlight every time she appears on the big screen. A deceiving little feline (not really a cat though), Goose the Flerken became an easy fan favorite in Captain Marvel.

Demanding for more of Goose, fans have been hoping to see the Flerken star in its own spinoff series or maybe even its own movie. Now, speaking in an interview with Empire on the publication’s podcast, Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck discuss what it would be like if they were given the chance to explore a spinoff movie focused on everyone’s favorite Flerken.

When asked whether Goose was always part of their plan for Captain Marvel,  Boden gives a hands-down yes. The director then goes on detailing the best parts of Goose – the pocket dimensions hidden inside her.

“Definitely always. It was one of the very very first ideas when we were all getting in a room together with the guys at Marvel and our co-writer,” Boden said during the interview, “We were throwing ideas on a blackboard with no idea what the structure of the story is gonna be, just like what might we want to see from the comics in this movie, that was definitely one of like the very top things we always wanted to see in the movie. It’s so awesome in the comics. I mean…a cat…who’s a Flerken…who has pocket dimensions? I mean that is, there was no way that wasn’t going to end up in this movie.”

Fleck then suggested what kind of Flerken sequel he’d like to see. Apparently, the Captain Marvel co-director would love to explore all of these pocket dimensions hidden inside Goose, going as far as imagining a comedic scene between Goose and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).

“I wonder what goes on inside. Like you said if there were a spinoff, maybe we go inside the Flerken. Like what if Talos got sucked in and then you could spend time with a Flerken and Talos,” the director imagined. “It’s what he feared all along, that he was going to end up in pocket dimensions inside that Flerken.”

There are a lot of possibilities that Marvel could explore. Flerken’s live much longer than a regular earth cat, and there are a whole lot of films that Goose could pop up in, especially now that Marvel is planning to work on a Cosmic Universe.

Captain Marvel is currently screening in cinemas.
