Ever wonder what Batman v Superman looked like before all the bells and whistles were added? Luckily, Zack Snyder has chosen to share an in-depth look at the work that it took to bring some of the film’s highlights to life. In doing so, fans are given a glimpse at the strenuous and complicated efforts that went into the explosive collapse of Capitol Hill, making Batman fight Parademons, and much more. You can check out the 11 minutes of before and after footage below.

The video doesn’t offer too much in the way of specific details, as there is very little voice over. However, it’s still worth a watch or two. One of the more interesting things given attention in the extensive look is how the “birth” of Doomsday came together. Obviously, there’s more to it than creating a monstrous Kryptonian, but an inside glance at the way in which the the VFX team explored how the fluids would form around him is especially fascinating.

Also intriguing are some of the shots that were full on CG work. Of course, much of the film had to go that route, as practical means would have been nearly impossible. But a few instance are still shocking. It’s easy to gauge why the Batmobile’s wilder moments had to be captured in CG, yet shots of it just moving along a straight both are shown to be computerized.

In the tweet in which Snyder shared the video, the director lauds the VFX team for their incredible work. They deserve it and more. While sitting down to watch a film, and walking away to critique it, we as viewers often forget to take into account the process involved in making the spectacle of it all shine. That in mind, let’s take a moment to offer thanks to the unsung heroes of these projects, big and small. Some of our favorite films and television shows simply wouldn’t function without the “ooh” and “ahh” action that keeps us coming back for more.
