While WB is slowly moving forward with Matt Reeves’ Batman film, the Superman franchise is currently dead in the water. What’s interesting though is that the studio may have found someone to reinvigorate the franchise in the form of one J.J. Abrams.

Rumor has it that Abrams’ is being courted to work on one big project for WB and one of them is a Superman movie. This comes from Thomas Polito of The GWW:

What’s interesting is, back during his Alias days, Abrams was actually commissioned to write a script for the Man of Steel and his project was dubbed Superman Flyby. Of course, the movie never got off the ground, and Abrams ended up working on other things; but with his status as a director, it’s very likely a Superman film from him can get greenlit easy.

Personally, I’m hoping that Abrams chooses to continue the story of Henry Cavill’s Superman, seeing as the character has been severely underserved. After coming out as an extra for Batman v Superman, the character was outright ruined by Justice League. Now WB doesn’t know what to do with one of DC’s biggest heroes, and Abrams could be the guy to bring the Man of Steel back onscreen.

For now, it’s all just rumors, but with the DCEU slowly gaining its footing, fingers are crossed that Superman could see the light of day once again. We’re hoping that Cavill stays as the Man of Steel though because honestly, the Brit is great as the Last Son of Krypton.

Catch Abrams next film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in theaters Dec. 20.

The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.
