2020 has thrown a huge wrench in the Hollywood machine, and a lot of films have been pushed back to next year to keep audiences safe from the pandemic. Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds had been pushed back to release in December, but Reynolds and the cast have come together to possibly hint that the premiere could be moved.
Here’s the video:
It’s just a short gag, but admittedly something that not the other films have been able to try. With so many other movies getting pushed back, I think this was the only promo to go meta and acknowledge that the pandemic has been pushing back so many films.
As it stands, multiple movies will now be clashing in the box office come December from Denis Villenueve’s Dune to Wonder Woman 1984, and a property like Free Guy which isn’t based on existing IP could have a hard time competing in the box office. While it’s possible for the film to come out around that time, it would probably be safer for 20th Century Studios to just delay it to summer of 2020.
For now though, Free Guy is still expected to come out on Dec. 11.
