While we are getting the return of fan-favorite The Mandalorian in 2023, Disney+ is gearing up for a series focused on a newer character with Andor; putting the spotlight on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Thanks to D23, we have a new trailer for Andor, and it really highlights how much more political and serious this show will be compared to previous Star Wars Disney+ shows. Watch this:
When we meet Andor in Rogue One, he had already been fighting for the Rebellion for years. Here in Andor, we actually get to watch him be outside of the Rebellion for a while, and it looks like it’s going to be Stellan Skarsgard’s character that’s going to convince him to come fight for something greater.
Besides Andor, this series is also considered to be some kind of origin story for Mon Mothma. In Rogue One, she is already a rebel leader, but here we actually get to watch the transition from the Republic to the Empire with Mothma at the very heart of it.
I also think it’s worth mentioning that we get to see some Phase 3 clone troopers walking around. Before Andor, it was Solo that was considered to be the closest thing we got to the Revenge of the Sith timeline, and even then they were already using the OG stormtroopers. With the clones having such a huge arc with The Clone Wars, it’s going to be interesting to watch the Empire transition from them to human recruits. Hopefully Andor will finally tell that story.
Catch Andor when it premieres its first three episodes this Sept. 21 on Disney+.
