According to Variety, Chloe Bennet, who had been cast as Blossom in the series, has stepped down from Powerpuff. No official statement has been made on Bennet’s part, but a source has claimed that she was forced to leave the show because of scheduling conflicts. Now the network is busy looking for someone else to take on the role.

Admittedly, Bennet was the most famous actress in the trio of main stars, having had a run on Agents of SHIELD. We don’t know who could replace her in the show, but hopefully The CW manages to land someone who may have the same status as Bennet when it comes to stardom.

Besides Bennet, the show also includes Dove Cameron (Bubbles), Yana Parrault (Buttercup), and Donald Faison (Professor Utonium). The show was also cast Nicholas Podany to play a version of Mojo Jojo which has been renamed Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr. The part of the mayor’s assistant Sara Bellum has also been given to Robyn Lively.

We don’t know exactly what elements they want to rework with the pilot, but a lot of people thought that the leaked script was too sexed up for a kid-friendly property like The Powerpuff Girls. Since this show is meant for the Millenials who grew up watching the cartoon, maybe it would help if the writers try to ease fans in on the idea that the PPGs are all-grown up slowly—not with an opening scene of Buttercup getting out of a sex marathon.

No release date has been set for The CW’s Powerpuff.

The CW’s Powerpuff Girls Reboot Getting Reworked https://www.geekfeed.com/the-cws-powerpuff-girls-reboot-getting-reworked/ Thu, 27 May 2021 03:52:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59680 Though we did get a look at The CW’s Powerpuff Girls reboot back in April, it looks like the network will be going back to the drawing board after a failed pilot.

As per Vanity Fair, the show is reportedly going to get reworked a day after the pilot’s script had leaked online. While there have apparently been copyright takedowns of the leaked script, you can read some of it here (and it’s… a lot):

Reactions have been very negative from fans online, but the studio believes that there’s a lot to salvage from Powerpuff to make a pilot that actually works. CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz explained:

“We believe in the cast and in [writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier] and [executive producer Greg Berlanti] and studio Warner Bros. In this case, the pilot didn’t work… Because we see enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot.”

Admittedly, Bubbles wanting to be a ‘fancy slut’ and Blossom interrupting Buttercup’s sex marathon can be a little too much for a live-action reboot of a kids’ cartoon. If anything, a Powerpuff rework still feels possible, but the showrunners will have to find a way to ease the audience in with how much these characters have grown.

Despite the rework, main stars Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault are still attached to the Powerpuff Girls project. The original writers are also staying onboard for the rework.

No release date has been set for Powerpuff, but the show is set to come out sometime later this year or early 2022.

The CW Gives First Official Look at Powerpuff https://www.geekfeed.com/the-cw-gives-first-official-look-at-powerpuff/ Tue, 13 Apr 2021 14:52:41 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59086 Last March saw the announcement of who The CW has cast as the live-action Powerpuff Girls, and though we have yet to get a release date on Powerpuff, The CW has given us our first look at Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Parrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup.

Check them out (via Deadline):

Popwerpuff

Here’s the description for Powerpuff:

Powerpuff follows the trio that used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

Besides the trio of main girls, the show has also cast Donald Faison as Professor Utonium. The Powerpuff series also includes Nicholas Podany as Jojo Mondel (Mojo Jojo) and Robyn Lively as Ms. Bellum. We don’t know if the Mayor is still around, but his voice actor, Tom Kenny, is also coming back to be the narrator of the series.

Though The Powerpuff Girls is a kid-friendly franchise, we should expect this upcoming show to be a lot more edgy, seeing as it is coming from the people who brought you Riverdale. That said, co-showrunner Diablo Cody has done some memorable coming-of-age work with Juno, and it would be interesting to see how she would handle Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup dealing with adulthood and a childhood that consists mostly of fighting supervillains.

No release date has been set for Powerpuff yet, but hopefully we can catch it on The CW sometime later this year.

Powerpuff Casts Scrubs’ Donald Faison as Professor Utonium https://www.geekfeed.com/powerpuff-casts-scrubs-donal-faison-as-professor-utonium/ Sat, 03 Apr 2021 00:53:25 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=58917 Donald Faison is probably best-known for playing Turk on Srcubs, and now he’s going to be playing another “Doctor” for The CW.

As per Variety, Faison has been cast as the live-action Professor Drake Utonium in the network’s Powerpuff Girls adaptation (now titled Powerpuff). The character is described as:

“…quirky, debonair, and a pinch narcissistic. He is a scientific genius who is immensely proud of the three extraordinary girls he created in his lab. Staring down a midlife crisis, he is determined to repair his relationships with his now-adult daughters.”

Faison will be joining a cast which already includes Chloe Bennet (Blossom), Dove Cameron (Bubbles), and Yana Perrault (Buttercup).

While Professor Utonium is more of a general father figure in any animated show, it’s going to be interesting to see how Faison handles the character. Faison is already generally likeable when it comes to his roles, so I guess it would make sense that they would cast him to be someone like Utonium. After all, he is a character who kind of pushed the girls into crime-fighting in their youth; why was he even planning on making ‘the perfect little girl,’ in the first place?

Here’s the official description of the show:

In the updated version of the series, the titular superheroes are now disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

While PPG is a generally kid-friendly property, Powerpuff is going the more adult route with the girls in their adulthood trying to cope with being child crimefighters. While a lot of fans are complaining about how edgy the premise is, I guess it can work for properties like Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

No release date has been set for The CW’s Powerpuff, but hopefully we can get something by 2022; maybe a trailer before the year ends.
