Cara Dune – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com Entertainment News, Celebrities and Fandoms Sun, 11 Feb 2024 08:00:33 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://www.geekfeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-Geekfeed-Favicon-White-32x32.png Cara Dune – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com 32 32 Gina Carano Announces She’s Suing Lucasfilm and Disney https://www.geekfeed.com/gina-carano-suing-lucasfilm-and-disney/ Sun, 11 Feb 2024 08:00:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80954 It was back in 2021 when Gina Carano had been fired by Disney from her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, and it was considered such a shame since she was set to star on her own spinoff series Rangers of the New Republic.

What had happened was Carano had been posting a series of tweets promoting anti-mask propaganda and suggesting voter fraud on her social media (at the height of COVID and political unrest no doubt), and though Disney was said to have given her several chances to rescind her statements, she nevertheless pursued—resulting to them eventually firing her.

Lucasfilm’s official statement read:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future… Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Three years later, Carano has now officially announced that she has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, suggesting she has been removed under wrongful circumstances, and Disney had been working hard to slander her reputation ever since. Here’s her post:

One excerpt reads, Hollywood says they support female representation & equal rights. Why then were my male co-stars permitted to speak without harassment & re-education courses or termination, but I was not afforded the same right to exercise my freedom of speech.

What’s more, she says she’s being backed by Elon Musk’s X, who had gathered a legal team for Carano and are going after the House of Mouse.

We don’t know how things will turn out for Carano, but she has certainly been getting the support of the right-wing side of the internet ever since she was fired.

For now, there is mixed support and non-support for Carano’s case, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Regardless, you can check out Carano in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian now on Disney+.

So What Happened to The Mandalorian’s Cara Dune? https://www.geekfeed.com/so-what-happened-to-the-mandalorians-cara-dune/ Mon, 06 Mar 2023 10:37:09 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73642 Gina Carano was set up to be her own Star Wars icon, but some anti-vaxx tweets had forced Disney to give her the boot. While fans know the real reason Carano was removed from Star Wars, The Mandalorian has gone ahead to explain what happened to her character who was the marshall of Nevarro the last time we saw her.

In the premiere episode of The Mandalorian 3, it was revealed that Dune was recruited by the special forces of the New Republic—and that was that. This was supposed to be the build-up to the spinoff Rangers of the New Republic, but since the bridges have been burned with Carano, it looks like Dune will just be jumping around the Star Wars universe, never to be mentioned again.

At least they didn’t kill her; opening the door up for some kind of reconciliation with Carano in the long run; but maybe if she changes her mind about vaccines and wearing masks.

Talking to Deadline, series director Rick Famuyiwa explains, “Cara was a big part and continues as a character to be part of the world… It had to be addressed in the creative, and [Jon Favreau] took the time to think about that. It was something that was discussed as we knew it was going to have impact on the show, but at the same time, what has been at the heart of the show are the two characters — Din Djarin and Grogu — so ultimately it felt like a servicing of that, and around the Mandalorians.”

For now, fans are just happy to have Din and Grogu back. Catch new episodes of The Mandalorian now on Disney+.

Rangers of the New Republic to be Reworked Into The Mandalorian https://www.geekfeed.com/rangers-of-the-new-republic-to-be-reworked-into-the-mandalorian/ Sun, 28 Nov 2021 15:12:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62609 Back when it seemed like there was no problem with Gina Carano, Lucasfilm was ready to have her lead her own series called Rangers of the New Republic, and hints were already dropped in the second season of The Mandalorian. With Carano being promptly fired for her anti-vaxx views though, it looks like Lucasfilm is now going to scrap the Rangers series—but not completely.

Talking to Empire (via @TheSWU), Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has explained that development of the series didn’t get really far, and future concepts would just be brought over to the next season of Mando. She says, “We’d never written any scripts or anything on that. Some of that will figure into future episodes, I’m sure, of the next iteration of Mandalorian.”

With the character of Din Djarin not having any specific allegiance with neither the Empire nor the New Republic, it would make sense for a series to focus on the characters who know they are on the side of the Rebellion.

With Mando said to be expecting a huge time jump for its next season, some think that they will finally be entering Sequel Era territory. It would be interesting to watch the early days of the New Republic, and maybe we can have cameos from Sequel characters like pilots Snap Wexley or Jess Pava. Would it be too hard to get Oscar Isaac to make a cameo as Poe?

For now, Disney+ is prepping for the release of The Book of Boba Fett on Dec. 29.

Star Wars: Has Rangers of the New Republic Been Cancelled? https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-has-rangers-of-the-new-republic-been-cancelled/ Fri, 21 May 2021 05:55:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59591 When Lucasfilm had announced a bunch of different shows coming to Disney+ like Ahsoka and Visions, one other series that was announced was something called Rangers of the New Republic, and it would have focused on Gina Carano’s ex-rebel trooper Cara Dune. With Carano getting fired by Lucasfilm though, it looks like Rangers has been put on hold.

As pointed out by Bespin Bulletin, Variety had made a passing mention that Rangers of the New Republic was ‘not currently in active development’. While some would think that this means that the show was cancelled, it’s possible that Lucasfilm is just shelving the project for now, with the intention to revisit the idea in the future.

Besides Cara Dune, Rangers was said to focus on other alliance characters from The Mandalorian like X-Wing pilots Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and Trapper Wolf (Dave Filoni). Fans were also hoping for the return of other fan-favorites like Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth as well as Bill Burr’s ex-Imperial sniper Migs Mayfeld. Maybe the show can even bring in other characters from Legends; I’m sure a lot of fans would want to follow the adventures of Rogue Squadron pilot Wedge Antilles.

Though Rangers may have been shelved, Star Wars fans still have a lot of content to look forward to. Besides Ahsoka, there’s still the upcoming Andor series plus Obi-Wan Kenobi. Let’s not also forget The Book of Boba Fett which is set to premiere on Disney+ this winter season.

For now, you can catch the first two seasons of The Mandalorian now streaming on Disney+.
