Rian Johnson Wants In on The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian has managed to bring together some great directors from Rick Famuyiwa to Taika Waititi, and a now someone else wants in on that Mando action—Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson.

Talking to the CinemaBlend Podcast, Johnson was asked on whether he would like to work on the second season of the show, and he said, “H*** Yeah! Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!”

As of now, the second season of The Mandalorian has already begun shooting, so we don’t know when things will open up for Johnson to be onboard. Maybe if a third season gets renewed, Johnson can jump in. For now it looks like he’s busy with other projects, one of them being the promotion of his latest movie, Knives Out.

Personally, I would prefer it if Johnson started work on his next Star Wars movie. A lot of people thought his film would be pushed forward to 2022 since David Benioff and D.B. Weiss left, but it looks like Lucasfilm has already found someone to helm; too bad we won’t get an announcement until January next year.

I actually really love how Johnson has managed to rise above all the flak he got from The Last Jedi. I thought the film was phenomenal, and it confounds me how some people would hate it so deeply. I guess it’s what divides the fans from those who love storytelling to those who are just really into lore.

You can watch Johnson’s Knives Out now in theaters.
