A lot of fans are excited for the release of Wonder Woman 1984, but with every superhero franchise, fans are always expecting three movies. The good news is, director Patty Jenkins already has a third movie in mind, but we may have to wait a while before it gets made.
During a roundtable interview at CCXP (via Collider), Jenkins had commented:
“We actually already know the whole story to [Wonder Woman 3] and then some because there is an Amazon [spinoff] movie as well and so we already have it all mapped out. It’s just a matter of will we change our minds and when.”
For now, it looks like the DCEU is still trying to figure out how to make its bigger films work. Rumors are going around that J.J. Abrams will be taking over Superman, and Matt Reeves is rebooting Batman with Robert Pattinson.
Jenkins also makes it a point that she doesn’t want to work on this third film immediately. She continues:
“I think what we don’t want to do is do it back to back. It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”
We don’t know how far DC has their movies planned, but they are sure getting some traction, after the following successes of Aquaman, Shazam!, and Joker. If 2020 manages to succeed with Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984, I have no doubt that the studio will be more open to have more installments within a year. Fingers crossed we finally get Ray Fisher and his Cyborg movie, or the Green Lantern Corps film.
While we don’t have a release date for the third film or the spinoff, everyone is excited for the release of Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020.
