Everyone thought that zombie genre had already been exhausted, but Zombieland managed to be a breath of fresh air back in 2009. After a decade in development, the sequel is already picking up some steam, and news has it that the original cast is coming back for the film.
As per THR, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, are all coming back to reprise the gang of Colombus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said:
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail… These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
Ruben Fleischer is also set to come back on the helm, and he’ll be working with a script from original Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
I thought Zombieland was an amazing movie, and it managed to poke fun at the zombie genre while at the same time giving us some great human characters—much like Shaun of the Dead. Not to mention it gave us one of the best cinematic deaths of all time:
No specific release date has been announced for Zombieland 2, but people are expecting it to hit theaters October of 2019.
