New X-Men Dark Phoenix Trailer Spoils Major Death

We were promised a new trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix this week, and 20th Century Fox has delivered with a more action-packed trailer. The downside is, if you want to go into the movie completely blank, you might as well avoid it.

Check out the preview:

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

If you’ve been paying attention to the trailer, Jean actually ends up killing Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). Even director Simon Kinberg admitted it himself that they were killing the character off. With this movie set to end Bryan Singer’s X-franchise, you’d think that they would be more subtle when it comes to the trailers.

If there’s an upside, the trailer does have a bit more spectacle this time around. The first trailer that came out barley gave us any trippy visuals. Here in the new trailer, we have so much to look at that I’m wondering if there’s any surprises left in the film.

Hopefully I’m wrong.

Catch X-Men: Dark Phoenix in theaters June 7.
