New Shazam! Trailer Finally Dropped

Shazam! is set to come out next month, and until now, we’ve only had the SDCC trailer to keep us hyped. The good news is, WB has dropped a new trailer, and it gives us a lot more to love about the film.

Check it out:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Admittedly, though the trailer does have a lot of new footage, the marketing is still clever in hiding some of the bigger reveals that are coming to the film. These have actually been spoiled by photos of the toys, but I think it’s great that the film has decided not to play all of its cards in the new trailer.

I do think it’s fun that Freddy says Shazam’s alter-ego is ‘Captain Sparkle Fingers’. I have a feeling we’re going to get a “Captain Marvel” mention one way or another. After all, it was Shazam that had that name in the first place.

Unlike the other DCEU films that have come before it, Shazam! is officially an action-comedy, and will serve as the Guardians of the Galaxy of the DCEU. It’s just so fun to watch Zachary Levi act like an excited kid with superpowers. It has been said that the film was going for a tone that was Big but with Superman instead of Tom Hanks.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5.
