Ncuti Gatwa has showed up in some beloved films and TV from Sex Education to Barbie, and now he’s taking over as the next Doctor in Doctor Who. With every new Doctor comes a new TARDIS and Sonic Screwdriver, and we have a new featurette showcasing the new Doctor’s favorite multitool.
Check this out:
Though the Sonic Screwdriver of Doctor Who has pretty much looked like a lightsaber wand from the days of Christopher Eccleston to Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker’s was the first Doctor to have a screwdriver that was the less conventional shape.
Now with Gatwa’s version of the Sonic Screwdriver, it looks more like the remote from Adam Sandler’s Click, only it’s a bit thicker and has some more interesting details on it.
Gatwa shares that there is actually a Rwandan proverb written on the device in Gallifreyan symbols which means, “The sharpness of the tongue defeats the sharpness of the warrior.”
Besides that, it also comes with a purple power crystal (yet another lightsaber comparison), and has a port that comes out when the Doctor needs to connect to another piece of technology. Of course, it also isn’t a sonic screwdriver if the Doctor can’t point it like a wand, and this new one seems to function the same.
For now, the sendoff has been completed from Tennant to Gatwa, and everyone is looking forward to this new Doctor and his next set of adventures. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next episode after the anniversary specials.
Watch out for new episodes of Gatwa’s Doctor on Doctor Who now showing on the BBC.
