While it was said that Robert Pattinson was in final talks to be the new Batman, there was news that he was still competing with X-Men star Nicholas Hoult for the role. Now it looks like the role is officially Pattinson’s, and director Matt Reeves confirms it himself.
This was his post on Twitter:
While there are still some people who can’t let go of the fact that the star of Twilight is going to be the new Batman, there are also some who think that it’s a fantastic piece of casting. Just looking at the history of the character with the likes of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, some are sure that Pattinson is going to make a memorable turn for his Dark Knight.
We don’t know when we’re going to get our first look at Pattinson in character, but with the movie said to be aiming a start of production later this year, we could very well have our first image of “Battinson” before 2019 ends.
No one else has been cast in the film, but the movie is said to be aiming for multiple villains from Penguin to the Riddler. Personally, I hope Jeremy Irons reprises his role of Alfred, so at least we can get some continuity going for the DCEU. After the success of Shazam!, I just kind of wish the DC Universe never halted and that we would still be getting movies for Ezra Miller’s Flash or Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.
The Batman is set to come out June 25, 2021.
