Marvel Studios has Begun Brainstorming for Introductions of the X-Men and Fantastic Four

Though the rights have already reverted back to Marvel Studios, we shouldn’t be expecting the Fantastic Four or X-Men to join that universe in the next five years. Though it may seem like a long time, the guys over at Marvel Studios have begun brainstorming on how to bring the Marvel Fox characters into the fold already.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told Fandango:

“It’s still early days, but it’s been a fun exercise, and it’s one, by the way, that we’ve been doing for years. Every development meeting starts with cool ideas and fun ideas, and our wheels are always turning in terms of what if… to use a Marvel publishing term. What if we did this? What if we did that? What if we had access to such and such characters? That’s how Spider-Man: Homecoming came together in the first place, and it’s fun to now be in this position with the Fox characters, too, because if we come up with a great ‘What If’ we can actually do it.”

With the X-Men just ending their franchise with Dark Phoenix this year, it’s likely that Marvel will want to bring in the Fantastic Four first (since their last movie was four years ago). I’m just spit-balling here, but I was suspecting that the old Avengers tower in Spider-Man: Homecoming was going to be turned into the Baxter Building, and I think it could be the new headquarters of the Fantastic Four should everything come together.

The X-Men will be a bit trickier though. The franchise needs sage characters like Professor X and Magneto, and I don’t think they could pull that off if mutants just suddenly turned up in the MCU. At best I think there should be some kind of multi-verse mumbo jumbo, but hopefully Marvel has better ideas than what I can come up with.

Personally I like when no one can predict what actually happens.

We don’t know when the Marvel Fox characters will come into the fold, but hopefully we get an update after Phase 3 ends with Spider-Man: Far from Home. Catch the movie in theaters July 2.
