Mark Ruffalo Allegedly in Talks to Reprise Hulk for Captain America 4

We don’t know if we’ll ever get a Hulk solo movie, but the character has found ways to make it to the big screen, like with his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. Now word has it that Ruffalo’s Hulk could be making an appearance in another Marvel solo movie.

According to Screen Geek, Mark Ruffalo is currently in talks to appear in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order. Nothing official has been confirmed, but with the movie said to be bringing back Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader from The Incredible Hulk, it would make sense that Bruce Banner would make some kind of appearance.

In The Incredible Hulk, Samuel Sterns was another scientist who was in correspondence with a Bruce Banner, secretly helping him find a cure to his gamma radiation condition. While Banner was clearly afraid of the Hulk, Sterns was shown to be actively fascinated by the condition—and after a mishap with the Abomination Emil Blonsky, Sterns found himself infected with Bruce’s blood; teasing his transformation into the Leader.

The ongoing rumor is that the Leader will create a team of new Hulks with the use of She-Hulk’s blood—which has been teased in the Disney+ show. While that does sound like a solid plot, I hope that fans don’t have to watch the series to be able to enjoy Captain America 4. After all, that was the problem with Wanda’s sudden evil turn in Doctor Strange 2; it only made more sense if you watched WandaVision.

If anything, I’m excited for the return of the Leader, and I’m eager to see Hulk take on some kind of supporting role. Let’s just hope Anthony Mackie doesn’t get sidelined in his own movie.

Captain America: New World Order comes to theaters May 3, 2024. For more Hulk, check out She-Hulk: Attorney at Law now streaming on Disney+.
