Director George Miller had run into some legal snags when it came to making his Mad Max sequel, but it looks like things are finally pushing forward, and Miller is set to make a spinoff centered on Charlize Theron’s breakout character from Fury Road, Furiosa. What’s interesting is, the movie may have already found a star.
According to Variety, Miller has had talks with Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The New Mutants) to star in the film. We don’t know which part he wants her for, but it’s probably for the part of a young Furiosa. The film is said to be aiming an early 2021 start, but thing could change depending on how this outbreak is being handled.
Besides Taylor-Joy, rumor had come out that Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer was being eyed for the part of young Furiosa as well. While I think both actresses can play the part well, I think the studio would lean more heavily on Taylor-Joy, seeing as she’s the one who’s been starring in more films lately. Then again, Comer has already been nominated for a Golden Globe, so maybe that could be a big bonus when it comes to earning the part.
For now, Taylor-Joy is set to star in The New Mutants, but because of the outbreak, it has been delayed for a fourth time. Hopefully things will be back to normal by June, and the movie finally comes out before the year ends.
Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.
