While fans are still waiting for their first look at Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series, original trilogy actors Dominic Monaghan (Merry) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) are coming together to launch their own podcast dubbed The Friendship Onion.
Here’s the launch announcement:
As per Deadline, the podcast is produced by Kast Media and will have Boyd and Monaghan, “digging into the latest in pop culture, put fans’ Lord of the Rings knowledge to the test, reveal exclusive stories from filming and maybe even welcome surprise drop-ins from famous faces.”
While there is already a ton of material covering the making of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, The Friendship Onion looks to be covering more than Monaghan or Boyd’s experiences while working on LOTR. Maybe they can even talk about the upcoming Amazon show when it comes out.
Then again, the pair are best known for their work on Lord of the Rings, so it’s possible that the show is going to make that their main focus. Besides The Friendship Onion, there have also been other podcasts launched that focus on shows that have long-ended like Offfice Ladies with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. Let’s just hope Boyd and Monaghan don’t burn out of LOTR material too soon.
The Friendship Onion is set to have episodes available weekly on Spotify and all podcast platforms, plus a video cast on Youtube. The show launches on May 18.
