Kelly Marie Tran Likely Not Coming Back to Social Media

The toxic side of the Star Wars fandom had bullied Kelly Marie Tran off social media after Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but Tran is coming back to the spotlight as the lead of Raya and the Last Dragon. Though Tran does have some fans that want to see her back, it looks like that won’t be the case anytime soon.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Tran explains that she won’t be coming back to the internet—at least, in a more public way. She shares:

“I’ve truly just been so much happier without being on the internet… I’ve had my agents tell me [I’m] forgoing brand partnerships, but I’m not here to sell flat-tummy tea to young girls.”

If anything, Tran says that she is very much connected with her friends with a ‘one-sided social media.’ She knows all about the current events and trending topics, but she actively avoids looking up reactions to her work.

While it’s important for Tran to stay away from the toxic side of the fandom, I’m hoping that there is a way for her to find out about the side of the fans that have nothing but love for Rose Tico (myself included). So much support for her has come out when it was announced that she left, and until now there are still some that continue to show love for Rose. Even The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson had this to say:

Fingers crossed that Lucasfilm brings the character back down the line, but for now, it’s just great that Tran is getting all this positive attention.

Catch Raya and the Last Dragon when it hits theaters and Disney+ on March 5.
