Josh Brolin has helped bring to life one of the most memorable villains in the MCU, but with Thanos gone, Brolin has his eyes set on reprising a live-action role that he originated in Deadpool 2.
Talking during ACE Comic-Con, Brolin has confirmed that he has had talks with Marvel about reprising Cable. He says:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m actually… I’ve been calling them, like, ‘What’s the deal with Cable, man?’ Seriously, 100 percent serious. They’re figuring it out. It’s a big world now, it just got much, much bigger. So who knows?”
Josh Brolin (Thanos), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) & Lee Pace (Ronan) discuss their roles in the MCU with Angélique Roché.

It’s interesting that Brolin should bring up Cable, because rumor has it that the only Marvel Fox character that Marvel Studios wants to salvage is Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. If they find a way to bring Deadpool into the universe, I’m sure it would be easy to get Cable to tag along. Maybe they can both keep each other company as they adjust to this new world without mutants—or however Marvel plans to bring them in.
For now, it looks like it will be a while before we get the X-Men in the MCU. At the very least, we would have to wait five years. Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio is already brainstorming different ideas on how to bring the mutants in. At best, I think they’re going to introduce the Fantastic Four. Maybe with that film they can bring in Deadpool as a teaser then have him introduce the concept of mutants, then we can get the X-Men.
That’s just me spit-balling. I would Marvel to come up with a solution that no one else was able to think about.
For now, the MCU has Spider-Man: Far from Home which you can catch in theaters today.
