The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise had hit an all-new low with Dead Men Tell No Tales, so Disney is now set to reboot the whole thing with a fresh cast. A lot of people are still curious if Johnny Depp is going to be appearing as Jack Sparrow, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer shares that they’re still not sure.

Talking to Collider, Bruckheimer was asked about Depp’s role, to which he replied, “The one we’re developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s role is going to be… So, we’re going to have to see.”

It’s worth noting that Depp was said to have been a lot of trouble on the set of the last movie, and his lack of enthusiasm kind of showed with the poorly delivered lines incoherent speech. Then again, this was at the height of his clash with ex-wife Amber Heard, and as we have all come to know, he had been a victim of serious domestic abuse.

We don’t know what Disney’s stance is going to be when it comes to Depp, but I think his involvement should be up to him. If he’s enthusiastic enough to appear in another Pirates film, then he should go for it, but if he doesn’t want to, I hope nobody tries to force him into it.

As for the current status of the film, Bruckheimer shared:

“We’re working on a draft right now and hopefully we’ll get it shortly and give it to Disney and hopefully they’ll like it… We don’t know. We’ve been working on it for a little bit.”

No release date has been set for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but I imagine a release sometime in 2022.
