Johnny Depp Requests Trial Delay to Accomodate Fantastic Beasts 3

Despite starring in huge blockbuster movies like Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Johnny Depp has been at the center of a nasty lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard. We have been getting bits and pieces of the trial online, and now word has it that Depp wants to delay his trial date set for January 2021.

According to Deadline, Depp has requested a delay to make accommodate his shooting schedule for the next Fantastic Beasts movie. Originally Depp was expecting to be done shooting by January 2021, but because of COVID-19, the production has moved to coincide with the originally planned trial date. The court papers say:

“When the Court set the current trial date in this case, Mr. Depp understood that Warner Bros. planned to shoot ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ in London long before January 11, 2021. COVID-19 disrupted the studio’s plans, causing repeated postponements. With conditions in London having improved somewhat, Warner Bros. has now set a shooting schedule that conflicts with the trial date in this case.”

Depp is apparently requesting that the date be moved to March or June of 2021. There are also discussions with Amber Heard to move the date mutually, seeing that Heard herself is expected to shoot the Aquaman sequel.

This whole mess with Heard and Depp has kind of a rollercoaster. While the #MeToo Movement has been calling out men for their abusive treatment of women, Depp’s case has actually revealed that is was Heard that was the abuser. We don’t really know how all of this will go down, but hopefully justice will be served in the end.
