John Ridley was Developing a TRON show for Disney+

Disney had attempted to reboot the TRON franchise back in 2010, and though the world looked fantastic, the film wasn’t too well-received critically. There had been several attempts at a sequel, and now news has it that an actual show was supposed to be in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ had actually commissioned a TRON television series with producer John Ridley (American Crime, 12 Years a Slave). Ridley was said to be working on the show via his ABC Studios deal, and had been developing it for months. Sadly, the show eventually came apart, and it was never even announced.

With Disney+ now allowing for more experimental projects with less risk, it could be high time to revisit the TRON franchise. Granted, fans will want something with spectacle, but with the way The Mandalorian was able to innovate special effects, I think a live-action TRON show could be very doable.

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of TRON: Legacy, but the overall design and feel of the world was an achievement. It’s kind of a shame that we never got that sequel that everyone was hoping for. With the news coming out now of a planned show, maybe Disney will reconsider once it gets a new angle on how the audiences feel about TRON.

Fingers crossed they get Daft Punk to work on the music again.

We don’t know if we’ll ever get another TRON property, but Disney+ is available now in select areas.
